Toddler discoloured tooth

Two days ago I noticed my daughters front tooth has turned slightly grey! She did have a significant fall which made her mouth / gum near that tooth bleed but that was months ago and so I thought she had got away with no damage to her teeth but now it looks otherwise :(

I am going to call our dentist on Monday and hope she can get seen as soon as possible but in the meantime I am looking for advice.

Is there anything I can do to help preserve the tooth from further damage or to help reverse the colour change. I am so worried it’s going to get worse, it looks unslightly and I am concerned about the impact it may have on her adult teeth.

I have read online it can heal itself within 6 months, does anyone have any experience of this? Thanks in advance.

Hi OP
My DD did the same, bad fall, banged her mouth causing top two front teeth to bleed.
They did go grey, went to the dentist who said nothing they could do, adult teeth likely unharmed, just one of those things.
18 months later I now can't tell the difference between all her teeth colour wise. They did go back to white, unsure when/how long it took , but they all look great now.
I understand the worry, I was obsessively taking photos and comparing her teeth daily!! But in our case it has all worked out. Fingers crossed for you as well.

Oh thank you for your reply, I really hope we have the same outcome as you.

Currently everytime I catch a glimpse of the tooth it makes me really sad and I wish I could make it go away. I do feel like I am obsessed with checking / comparing it too.

This happened to my DD too, many years ago, when she banged her front teeth on the bath. The grey faded over time (like a bruise) and disappeared completely. I cant remember how long it took, it was quite a while, few months maybe. No damage to her adult teeth either. Hopefully yours will be the same!

My ds is in the same boat. He's 4. The dentist did an xray , said all is OK and when it falls out the second tooth should come down fine. I think the main worry is that the second tooth would be damaged too. Dentist said it happened to his own dc so it must be a common issue.

@forevercurious it used to upset me looking at it as well, I felt guilty even though it wasn't my fault! As PP have said I was also told it was like bruising which of course fade over time. Get the dentist to have a check just to be sure but all you can do is sit back and wait.
