Hello, I’m really panicking as my 22 year old son vomited some blood with food. He has been having an upset stomach along with stress of exams and erratic sleep patterns. Today after during his exam at uni he vomited and noticed a little blood too. He’s currently in A&E awaiting a check up. I’m really concerned what could have caused this. Any ideas or experiences would be very helpful. Thank you

Vomiting blood usually falls into two categories. Red blood this is fresh blood and can be caused by a variety of reasons. Minor bleed from scratches at the back of the throat from the stress of vomiting. There are other reasons for fresh blood and often not super concerning
You can get older blood which now looks like coffee grounds and this often indicates that there has been a sizeable bleed in the stomach and investigations into the bleed and whether it's a continued problem.
He's in the right place and they can do the tests to work out what's going on. It can be concerning but there are lots and lots of non serious reasons for blood too.

Thank you for your response. This is exactly what he was told at A&E. they didn’t do any tests but gave him an anti emetic to relieve the vomiting. He hasn’t vomited but just says his tummy hurts. I’m hoping it settles soon!
