How do I manage eczema?

Looking for some advice on how to best manage eczema on my 5 year old? I’ve been to the doctor numerous times, and keep just getting sent away with a different steroid cream to try but no actual advice on the longer term management of the skin/condition. The minute we stop the steroid, the flare comes back again, it’s extremely itchy, red, raw and she says it’s really sore and stingy when we apply any kind of cream to it. I don’t want her to be on steroids long term, so I need to understand what I can/need to do to keep it under control. Any help or advice or a point towards some resources or even social media accounts would be gratefully received x

Keep DC well greased with emollient. You may have to try different ones.
Bath in water only using a soap substitute such as dermol.
Look out for triggers but don't get too bogged down by looking for an answer.
Use steroids when needed on top of emollient.
If not responding get back to your doctor.

My sister has struggled with excema, especially sore, red and itchy around the joints and recently tried weleda skin food. She is transformed! If I hadn’t seen it I wouldn’t have believed how much better it is. Never been on steroids though so don’t know if this would still be effective.

Go back to doctor and insist on being referred to a specialist. Its literally the only way forward for you as it's so individual and some stuff suggested on this thread could be the polar opposite of what your child needs- classic example is not too many baths is often advised but for my toddler daily baths are actually part of her care plan.

Return to your Gp and persist until you're referred

Mines 6yr old and nothing helped until we started on Diprobase and it's great. They still use steroid cream but only maybe once a month on small little flare ups.

Try the child’s farm products

Works wonders for us !

We put oilatum in every bath, put cream on everyday, and changed washing products to the sensitive ones like fairy etc. also was told dust can irritate eczema so we keep the child's room super clean and regularly change bedding and always fresh clothes and pjs everyday.
