Scratch on eye- reassurance please

Hello, my 3.5 month old girl woke this morning with a red, sore, puffy eye. At close inspection I can see a horizontal scratch on her eyeball- I presume from a nail. I rang my GP and am still waiting for an appointment. They've asked me to send photos- I can't capture the scratch and she doesn't want to keep her eye open.

Someone from reception has rang to say they can't see anything on the photos so it can't be too deep. I've explained I can't really capture the scratch but it is deep enough for the naked eye to see. They might not be able to see her until tomorrow as they close at 5.

I'm stressing as wanted her to be seen this morning really! I keep thinking how I had a scratch my eyeball years ago, and nobody could see anything yet it needed drops as dye showed a small abrasion.

Please can someone reassure me or advise what you would do? Has anyone else's baby scratched their eyeball?
Thank you.

That will be a corneal abrasion. A GP won’t want to deal with it. You will need to go to nearest hospital with emergency eye department.

it needs antibiotic ointment - it’s not a problem to scratch your eye but it is a potential for infection and that is the risk. Don’t risk eye issues!

I’ve done this and had DCs that have had it. They take it seriously. You won’t get a photo of it you need optical equipment

GP won't help. Do you have an eye an and e? If not an optician would be a better starting point.

Thank you both. Our opticians are 6months plus and local a&e don't do eyes so taking her to the next closest one they've suggested- thank you.

Just had a callback from GP and like you've said, can't help. I did ask if they could see her when I originally rang and they have apologised x
