Chicken pox vaccine post exposure

Hi All,

Im just looking for more peoples experiences post exposure stories and vaccination.

My husband has shingles, doctors didn’t see him and confirm for 5 days, at this point blisters were weeping etc which is when they are contagious to those who have not had chicken pox - and yes my daughter touched the rash 🙄. I did make her wash her hands after…

Any way, day 5 after that and doctors confirmation I took her to get the pox vaccine as I really don’t want her to be poorly etc and we have lots of things planned and her being unwell and missing out on these things made me think it was best too.

My question is has anyone had their child vaccinated 5 days post exposure and if so did it stop it/ reduce symptoms if they did come out?

Thanks

My child got exposed to chicken pox in school and at home.... 2 weeks before we were due to go on a family holiday abroad.
We got her the chicken pox vaccine day 3 after exposure and she didn't catch them at all.
Well worth the £100 in my opinion otherwise we would have had to cancel our holiday if she caught them.

We got my son vaccinated post exposure at the age of three. He was heavily exposed to one other child who was playing with him, stroking him and hand feeding him sweets in the waiting area of a walk in centre. After about 30 mins the parents revealed they were in as kid had chicken pox - utter idiots. We’d been considering vaccinating anyway and had an expensive holiday booked in two weeks so got him done two days after exposure. He didn’t get CP and hasn’t since (nearly nine).

Iv read great things about 3 days and before exposure and vaccine but nothing about day 5, that’s my concern - did I miss the boat of it working. Pharmacist said it should at least provide some coverage and be less horrific if/when they do come out.

I got my son vaccinated when chicken pox was going round his nursery. He developed chicken pox. And a bad case. Probably already had the virus in his system when he was vaccinated. Probably worth a try still right.

How soon after vaccination did he get them?

The nurse that vaccinated my child said that upto 5 days post exposure you should be ok. They may still catch them but be less severe.

Sorry I'm not sure, it was 6 years ago. In my head it was practically the next day.

Hi @Laura3128 did you get your child vaccinated in the end ? My son has chicken pox and day 3 after the rash has come out I’m trying to get my daughter in somewhere ( have struggled as it’s the weekend and she has a milk allergie - the one the pharmacy contained lactose ) just wanted to know if it was successful if you did? Thanks x
