Hi, so my daughter has had a cough now for 5 weeks. We have been to the doctor twice and he said there is no chest infection and sats are all good
I don't know what to do I give her some cough syrup but it doesn't do anything.
As soon as she wakes up she is coughing, then throughout the day and before he goes to sleep. She will wake up 2/3 times coughing through the night.
I really don't know what else to do or how to help stop this and I'm getting really worried there is some sort of underlying problem.
Has anyone else experienced this with there toddler or can give any sort of advice.
Thanks in advance

Since he was about 2, my son's cough has been a sign of allergies. He is 7 now. He also has asthma, but gets a cough that is worsened by dust (he has a diagnosed allergy to dust mites) and I've noticed when he has too much dairy he starts coughing as well. His allergy is relieved using childrens antihistamine which is prescribed but you can also get it over the counter. Might not be anything to do with allergy but worth eliminating if asthma and chest infection have been ruled out.

If you're unlucky, coughs can really stick around after viral infections, even 2-3 months isn't unheard of. Hopefully as part of your GP review they considered asthma type features in the history, and would have been able to detect audible when listening. Reasonable to have your child seen again if things are no better in a few weeks.

Cough is unfortunately a tricky symptom to manage and cough syrups soothe the throat but don't really suppress the cough (the cough reflex has evolved to be very strong for a reason).

Silent reflux can also cause an overnight cough as the reflux irritates the back of the throat when it comes up and goes back down
