9 year old left chest pain

Hi everyone

I'm taking my 9 year old daughter to the gp tomorrow but any replies just to keep me sane till then would be much appreciated

So she started getting pains to the left side of her chest a few days ago when I got her a trampoline, after a while she started getting upset because it hurt while jumping

She's absolutely fine when playing, walking, sitting but as soon as she does any jumping motions like the trampoline, seesaw or even hiccups she says it hurts again, it goes away pretty fast after resting but she's very upset that she can't use her new trampoline because it hurts.

Any ideas what could be causing this?

Thank you in advance

I don't know, Autismama, but it sounds like an injury. She may well have strained muscles in her chest area. It's not difficult to do that and you don't always notice it at the time but get pain later. There is also strain induced bronchospasm but it doesn't sound like that.

Please don't worry, you are taking her to the GP tomorrow who will no doubt be able to discern what is wrong.

Good luck and come back and tell us what happens.

Thank you for your reply, that's my gut instinct that she's strained it somehow, she's a very active child she very rarely sits still, I'm sure gp will give me peace of mind but us parents are good at overthinking and worrying aren't we x

Oh I am so pleased, I thought it would be that, very common after trampolining and other types of exercise, but you never know. You were right to take your daughter to the doctor and now you can both relax.

Something to watch out for is reflux. My partner got hit in the chest playing football and for about 6 months afterwards he had wicked acid reflux. He saw the GP and they thought it was probably due to the injury. He had a short course of omperazole and once he healed he was fine again except he now gets hiccups with very spicy curries.

That's a good point, my daughter does seem to get hiccups alot recently, thank you x

I really wouldn’t worry about this. It’s probably musculoskeletal. Possibly something like costocondritis. Have you tried giving her ibrupofen? Again, I really wouldn’t worry but good to have her checked over
