Mounted a kerb pretty hard - now stressed about shaken baby!

Hello,

Not sure if I’m being totally paranoid but while driving with my six week old just now I mounted a kerb pretty hard and his head went side to side in the car seat as we bumped back down. I know you’re not supposed to google these things but now I’m panicking about shaken baby syndrome. The sensible part of my brain is telling me car seats are designed to withstand greater impact than this and also that to cause it you have to repeatedly violently shake a baby, which this isn’t, but I can’t help panic! He did cry but I also discovered a dirty nappy once we got out the car and he is currently feeding ok as I type, if not a little sleepy (but he’s been cat napping and feeding the whole day in this hot weather).

Should I get him looked at or am I worrying about nothing?

Thank you!!

@Bella0831 - you repeatedly post threads about being anxious that you've harmed your baby somehow. Have you spoken to your GP about health anxiety because this isn't good for you or your DC?

@TheBossOfMe yes I’ve been referred by my HV to Talking Therapies. In the interim I was just looking for some reassurance.

Really pleased to hear that, I'm sure you'll find it very helpful.

I don't think you need to worry at all about shaken baby syndrome from one relatively mild bump of a car over the kerb.

PacmanIsLost · 30/07/2024 15:06

You’re worrying about nothing. Your baby will be ok, please try and take a deep breath and relax. The early days are scary and overwhelming but like pp said you do need some help. Don’t be fobbed off if there is a waiting list for talking therapies, keep pushing your HV or Dr to see you. I say this as an anxious person who really struggled with the newborn stage.

Don't worry. Child is in a carseat. It's fine.

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 30/07/2024 15:16

Why did you mount the kerb and how on earth did you have time to see what baby's head was doing?

fuhb · 30/07/2024 16:04

I'v seen a video of a doll being shaken with force necessary to cause shaken baby syndrome, it's not something you could do accidentally.

The car seat provides protection from quite serious accidents, mounting a kerb won't cause any issues.

Don’t be an arsehole. Clearly it was accidental. Have you never done something accidentally?

OP repeatedly posts threads worrying about harming her child. I just wondered if she had been looking at the child when she mounted the kerb, in which case, she wasn't paying attention and there could have been pedestrians on that pavement.

BitOutOfPractice · 30/07/2024 18:55

But there wasn’t was there so why would you want to add any more anxiety. 🙄

op I agree, you need to try and expedite your treatment. Do you still see the midwife?

dontjudgemeagain · 30/07/2024 19:16

Gently, being reassured about this instance won't actually help you - you'll find something else. Well done on making the steps for therapy.

Mumoftwo2022 · 30/07/2024 19:50

Worrying over nothing. Take a step back look at things from a logical point of view rather than a protective mother’s point are view. There is no way that would cause shaken baby syndrome
