Teething

Hello everyone I'm a first time mom to a 5 1/2 mo girl.
She's teething and she is barely eating. Is this something that can be normal? Google mentioned that only a few babies are impacted appetite wise when teething. Though I thought this was odd because if my teeth hurt, I might not feel the best and want to eat either?..

I didn't know if anyone else's LO experienced a lack of appetite and just didn't want to eat. The most she will have is 3oz at a time I would say every 3-4 hours. This has been going on for two days. I am worried about her weight if she is not eating that well. She is already pretty petite.

My little girl seemed to completely lose her appetite for 3-4 days when her first two teeth came through, but it was the middle of a heatwave so I've never been sure if it was the teething or the heat!

Didn't seem to have an impact on her weight though, she had gained as normal at her next weigh in and she's very petite (2nd percentile).

Yes, in my experience appetite is affected but not normally for more than a few days at a time.

Some would suggest calpol but I find it does F all. Sometimes slight improvement with Nurofen.

You could try teething powder right before a feed. Does she drink any more when she's sleepy?

Yes my little barely eats at all when he's got teeth popping through. Definitely give nurofen over Calpol because it's anti inflammatory so helps with the swelling of the gums. I imagine loss of appetite is pretty standard, as you say, you wouldn't want to eat with toothache

Yes

They often have upset tummies too and a bit of a fever

This makes me feel a bit better as many I've spoken to stated that their LO never had issues feeding :(
Oddly enough, I've never heard of either of those things! Is that something that's over the counter or you can just get anywhere? Thanks for the response!

It's so hard to tell with some many different possibilities to factor in! Thank you for your response! I mentioned to another person that I've never heard of either! Hoping to snag some to try. Is this something that needs a pediatrician to send over to the pharmacy or do I just get it at a store?

She did wake up twice last night and had only 3 oz each time then as well.. sigh. Today she's doing the same thing! I am definitely going to try teething powder thanks for the tips!

You can get nurofen anywhere, it's usually next to the Calpol in the supermarket 😁

The sugar in teething powder provides about 60 seconds of pain relief but there are no medications in them. Get her some nurofen and anbesol liquid. If I was in so much pain I didn’t want to eat then I would want some pain killers.
