Constant snotty nose and cough!!

My DD (almost 3) started a new preschool almost 2 months ago. Since then she's had a snotty nose pretty much constantly (clear) and a (mostly nighttime) mild cough. She's otherwise fine in herself and doesn't seem bothered but I'm starting to worry something serious might be wrong.

GP doesn't seem bothered but we've been fobbed off by them before for other things so I'm not that trusting anymore.

She had scarlet fever a few months ago and had antibiotics but she's since had a completely clear chest xray, not sure if that's relevant.

Has anyone else had this??

as it’s linked to the preschool start, it sounds likely that she’s coming into contact with a lot more viruses than previously and fighting them off, with some small reactions. It’s probably just this, are there any days with no symptoms or does it happen every day?

Thanks @Tholeonagain

Some days are definitely worse than others, we have had days where I've not noticed any coughing but I suppose it's so 'low level' any way I could have just missed it. The snot seems never-ending though.

When my children started pre school they would get cold after cold after cold, it seemed never ending...
the clear chest x ray is a good thing and if the GP isn't too worried then there's probably not a lot you can really do except ride it out. There are 100s of different cold viruses out there and pre school is a great spreader.

If DC isn't unwell, the excess mucus may well be caused by an allergy or perhaps an intolerance, most often dairy. (even without an allergy some singers avoid dairy because of mucus affecting the voice) The result is runny nose and a cough at night because it without gravity it runs down the back of the throat. Is DC being given a lot of dairy at nursery? Request an alternative for a couple of weeks and monitor.

I did hear a statistic that pre schoolers get up to 12 colds a year which is 1 a month!

This is really useful info and something I hadn't considered, thank you. She's been drinking cows milk since age 1 but recently been having slightly more of it as we've ditched juice/squash entirely. They do also give a cup of milk at pre school, not sure if they did this at her old nursery. So maybe she is slightly intolerant. But is it common for this to come on age 3?

Or maybe a different allergy. We do have dogs although they've been here since before she was born. Hmm....
