Does anyone know if this could be dangerous?

I would be on my way to the GP.

You can get lymes disease from tick bites.

user1498572889 · 25/07/2024 13:51

The doctors put my daughter on a 21 day course of antibiotics when she got a tick bite.

motherboredd · 25/07/2024 13:55

Do you know if was definitely a tick?

If it was a tick, she will need a course of strong antibiotics.

Singleandproud · 25/07/2024 13:57

Draw a circle around the red bit to keep an eye on the infection, Germolene it, take an antihistamine and then get in touch with GP if you know for certain it was a tick.

motherboredd · 25/07/2024 13:57

Just to add, there is no need to panic, in the short term nothing bad will happen to her but you just need to make sure you get to a gp so she can take the antibiotics which will kill the bacteria and stop her getting lymes disease.

With a bullseye like that DS was put on 3 weeks of antibiotics in case of Lyme disease.

MrTiddlesTheCat · 25/07/2024 13:59

If it looks like a bullseye, which it does, you should see a doctor.

hja62 · 25/07/2024 14:03

Yes. Go to GP. If a ticks bite develops a bullseye rash it's a sign of Lyme disease. Luckily, if caught early, a course of antibiotics will sort it before any infection takes hold. It's a nasty life-long disease otherwise. Better to be overly cautious and get the antibiotics than take that risk.

EnjoythemoneyJane · 25/07/2024 14:34

Yep, this is one situation where I’d err on the side of caution and get antibiotics without waiting for anything further to develop, even though they may be unnecessary - the ring around the bite is enough to suggest it’s possibly infected. Lyme disease is easily treated/prevented at this stage, but can develop into a very serious illness if left untreated. I live in the rural SE where there are large sheep and wild deer populations, and know an adult and a child who’ve been badly affected.

Thank you everyone. We are awaiting a doctors assessment in an urgent care unit.
Really appreciate all your responses.

Good luck. Hope he's OK

DGPP · 25/07/2024 17:29

Definitely needs a longish course of antibiotics, that’s a classic bullseye rash

IAmNotALoon · 25/07/2024 17:39

Yes it looks like a bullseye rash, need to see a doctor and I think get antibiotics. Several years ago my so had exactly the same rash that developed 2 weeks after a tick bite. Took him to a GP who pooh-poohed my concerns and sent us away with no treatment. Now my grown-up son has CFS and his consultant said that untreated Lyme could have been a factor in the development (but also long COVID and anxiety). I wish I had known more at the time and insisted on treatment. Looks like you are more on the ball than I was Op, good luck!

wincarwoo · 25/07/2024 20:34

So sorry to hear that @IAmNotALoon

We now have a course of antibiotics for three weeks.

Again thanks for all the sound advice everyone.

Hi, glad you got it sorted and sorry to hijack here but just wondered if any one could advise having seen people on here with experience of this. My 4 year old son had a rash like this a few weeks ago, which we took him to the Gp about after a couple of days. We don’t know if he has a tick bite, but he did say he got ‘stung’ by something two weeks before. They agreed it looked like a bullseye rash but didn’t prescribe anything, and the rash actually completely faded by that night. If it was Lyme disease would the rash stay for longer or can it disappear? Thanks 🙏

Hi - my daughter's bites looked like normal ones for the first few days and then developed the bullseye appearance. The other key thing the doctor asked was if they are itchy. Tick bites aren't it seems.

Thanks so much for taking the time to reply. Did you see the tick or they just prescribe knowing that it was the likely cause?

Whatareyoutalkingaboutt · 26/07/2024 09:30

You need to her her 21 days of antibiotics asap. I have had 3 Lyme disease infected tick bites. First two I didn’t get quick enough and had long term problems. I got bitten a few months ago, and as soon as the bulls eye rash broke out I got the antibiotics and had no problems as it was dealt with quickly . So she should be fine . There’s a Lyme uk group on Facebook that’s good

Hi, no we didn't see the ticks. Doctor looked at them through a magnifying glass.

The bullseye appearance seemed to be enough for them.
