My daughter is 3 has suffered with water infections and a horrible kidney infection a few months ago ever since her last kidney infection her weeing hasn’t been the same (feels like she needs to go but then doesn’t or weeing 15+ times a day) I’m very nervous and she is seeing a paediatrician tomorrow I wondered if anybody had been through something similar and what to expect at the appointment? She’s also a sickle cell carrier as well I don’t know if that makes a difference but read somewhere it can contribute to kidney problems. Really anxious, thank you

My daughter had similar sorts of issues. After various scans and tests they decided she had developed overactive bladder. They gave us some tips to help her with it. She was offered medication but we declined it. She has mostly grown out of it now, 9 years later!

That’s great thank you for sharing, they have advised very low dose of antibiotics nightly to keep it at bay for 6 months but unsure on every night tbh and he has referred us for an urgent kidney scan so fingers crossed we are seen quickly.

Is there anything she could be drinking to give her an overactive bladder?

once when DD was about 3 I bought her a bottle of flavoured water at her insistence - she drank it and proceeded to go to the loo 3 times in the next 30 mins. I never gave her it again and wondered what nasties were in there to cause such a thing!

@Quitelikeit My daughter was banned from drinking blackcurrant squash!

@Lollipop20 My daughter had a kidney scan (with radioactive tracer) and also some tests to check that she was fully emptying her bladder. I think we had to measure volumes of wee at some point too and keep a diary of how much she was weeing. That was a bit grim!

There are some techniques you can use to help with making sure the bladder is fully empty, including sitting backwards on the toilet seat (so you are facing the cistern) when going for a wee, and getting off the toilet once you are done, then doing a dance and trying again.

Hope you get some answers and can avoid the long term antibiotics (although I took them for some time without any issues).
