My DS is 5yo and we have recently been struggling with noise sensitivity. Hes always been a sensitive kid but over the last few months it gotten worse to the point school have mentioned it affecting him at school. He is in Reception ( just finished) and it first apparent whilst he watched a school play, he couldnt handle the noise and had to leave with a TA. Then on sports day, he had two or 3 other meltdowns becuase of use of microphones. We are on holiday at the moment and couldnt get him into the clubhouse where the kids activities were due to noise ( to be fair it was loud) but also dark room, and flashing lights. Im starting to worry a bit. He is Ok with loud noises in general, he has two loud siblings, we listen to music a lot etc so im wondering if these occasions ate just sensory overload and whether there is more at play? Would it be a GP i see or maybe school SENCO as its now starting to disrupt his experiences at school and outside.

See both, gp first as it's school holidays.

Please buy your son some ear defenders straight away and take them everywhere with you.

Definitely get him some more ear defenders - so many children use them now.

I'm not sure the GP will do anything, but it's worth having on his records that you have concerns about this.
