Does this look like chicken pox?

DD came out in this rash on Wednesday morning- all over arms, legs and back. She’s vaccinated for chickenpox but I know a few kids can still get it mildly so have assumed that’s what it is. She’s fine in herself and only slightly itchy.

The thing is, the rash hasn’t changed at all since it appeared. I would have expected chicken pox to start blistering a bit by now? It’s still dry and only slightly raised in places. DD is going nuts having been off school for three days and desperate to go to rehearsals this weekend for her dance show on Monday, but I’ve got no idea when I can let her mix with other kids (normally it would be when chickenpox scab over but if they’re not blistering, they’re not going to scab?) and now I’m not even sure if it’s chickenpox at all. I put an econsult in to the doctors but won’t hear back til Monday now

Can the pharmacist help at all in the meantime?

Shouldbedoing · 19/07/2024 20:57

Has she eaten anything unusual to cause allergic rash? Cherries/strawberry etc

ItsYourMoneyRalf · 19/07/2024 20:58

that looks like measles

squirrelnutkins1 · 19/07/2024 20:58

Doesn't look like chicken pox. Try a pharmacy they often give good advice x

Cheepcheepcheep · 19/07/2024 20:59

No but I’d love to know as my DS (2) has the same thing and it’s driving me crackers! No allergies but a week on and no blistering so we assume not CP or measles (vaccinated against it anyway!)

Cheepcheepcheep · 19/07/2024 21:00

We were wondering about heat rash? Or an allergy to the sun cream nursery use…

urrrgh46 · 19/07/2024 21:02

Looks like a typical viral rash to me.

Fudgetheparrot · 19/07/2024 21:19

Cheers everyone. Don’t think it can be measles as she’s had all her vaccinations and seems otherwise fine.

Cant think of any new foods or detergents or anything that would cause an allergic reaction

YOU CAN STILL CATCH MEASLES EVEN IF VACCINATED !

WhatMe123 · 19/07/2024 21:24

No doesn't look like it. Chicken pox are round ish blisters they look too flat and odd shaped

LapinR0se · 19/07/2024 21:25

Very measles-y looking in my opinion.

Has she been unwell at all? If not I would think she's ok to be out and about this weekend. But a pharmacist could take a look tomorrow morning maybe?

We were concerned DD had measles a while ago and the doctor said it was incredibly unlikely if vaccinated

Highly unlikely though, the vaccine is very effective. Anyway it doesn't really look like measles

No, she’s been a bit tired but to be fair it is the end of term and she’s just got over a double ear infection. No other symptoms

pharmacist is a good shout

Roughly 3/100 and the infection can be very mild

triballeader · 19/07/2024 21:31

THIS is defiantly measles rash, you would also have a kid who had a fever no was clearly unwell. (And whilst it is possible to catch measles after a vaccination it’s VERY rare and associated with an immune system failing to fully prime against the virus. It is also unlikely to happen in a healthy individual)
Maybe call NHS 111 and access some medical advice if your concerned.

What antibiotics was she on? How long ago was they stopped?

hari27 · 19/07/2024 21:35

That's post viral in my girls, well two of them. Every time. Any illness, afterwards look like that.

Every child is different, any rash can be a worry. If concerned always nhs.
