Ds vomitting every night he goes to crèche/nursery

Ds is 12 months and vomits after his bedtime bottle every day he goes to crèche. After it and the next day he will be totally fine and if he doesn’t go to crèche he won’t vomit though if he does he will. Pattern started a few weeks ago then he didn’t go for a week and was totally fine, back today and vomitted right on que. What is going on?

they don’t seem to give him anything different to what he has at home. I thought it was tiredness because he doesn’t nap well in there but I kept him home this morning to have his long morning nap before leaving him in.

Even if they don’t give him something unusual for him are you sure they don’t give a different brand etc of something he would usually have that he could be allergic too.

anxiety maybe

modgepodge · 15/07/2024 20:05

Does he drink much milk there? I had exactly this with my daughter around this age. She was unsettled at childcare and didn’t drink much all day. I compensated for this by giving her more milk in the evening, turns out it was more than her little tummy could manage! Any chance this could be happening?

Positivethoughts92 · 15/07/2024 20:11

He does have cmpa but they assure me that they don’t give him anything not dairy free but possibly there could be something but I don’t know what it could be. I go through what he’s ate every day and nothings particularly standing out 🙈

He doesn’t drink any milk there but I suspect he doesn’t get much water either as his dirty nappies had got very hard and that week he’s was off when I was giving plenty of water and they went back to normal. I try and give him water at any opportunity he looks thirsty in the evening when he gets home to over compensate unless I’m giving him too much in a short period for his little stomach but I’ve said several times about giving him more water in there but they don’t seem to unless he won’t take it 🙈

also could be seperation anxiety as he’s got so clingy and cries going in which breaks my heart but what do I do

Given the allergy I would ask to see all the packaging for the food they are giving him to make sure nothing has been missed.
Could he be having something in higher quantities there? I'm wondering about milk substitutes in particular?

Positivethoughts92 · 16/07/2024 19:24

Yeah I think you’re right it must be some sort of alternative they are giving him 🙈. I will ask for more details on the food, thank you. Happened again tonight 😣

my money is also on anxiety. I wouldn’t leave my kid there

Positivethoughts92 · 16/07/2024 19:44

Where would you leave your kid then if you needed to work?

Hi I work in a nursery.
Ask next time you are there for a copy of the menu he is on.
Ask what dairy substitutes they are on.
Ask his key worker if she can keep track of his water intake for you as he has been having hard stools.

Positivethoughts92 · 16/07/2024 19:56

@needhelpwiththisplease thank you!! I will do all this 👌

Couldn't it just be they feed him more so the evenings bottle is then too much, he's vomiting from being overfed?

That's always been the case with my two. They get three meals when they're at nursery and need much less when they get home compared to a non-nursery evening.

Try just giving him half his usual bottle after a nursery day.

This is a good shout

DancingPhantomsOnTheTerrace · 16/07/2024 20:13

It might be dairy, but also worth considering another more obscure allergy - is there anything else they might feed him that you don't?

They should be willing to help here, when DD2 started randomly coming out in hives every so often, the GP suggested we started a food diary, and the nursery sent us the food information/ingredient lists of everything she ate so we could keep track and try and figure it out.

Positivethoughts92 · 16/07/2024 20:23

@Mumoftwo1316 i thought this might be the case too but tonight he only took 5oz when he usually takes 9oz and still was sick. Unless I cut the bottle completely though he wakes up during the night hungry I find if he doesn’t get a good bedtime bottle 🙈

its hard to get to the bottom off. I was afraid of sounding too ott but I am going to ask for all the food and ingredients to try and get to the bottom of it

@Positivethoughts92 honestly just ask.
They are there to help.

Does he wake up in the night hungry after a nursery day too? Or only on non-nursery days?

The thing with nursery is that they do meal times a certain way that might not match what your family does.

For example, in our family we don't do "tea time", we just power through between lunch at 12 and dinner at 6. If dd gets hungry in between she has an apple whenever.

But at nursery they have a big cooked lunch at 11.30, a big cooked tea at 4 (baked potato and beans AND a pudding like apricots and yogurt). Then the kids come home and we have lasagne on the table at 6! It's too much. Ditto with baby ds, they ply him with purees.

Baby ds naps on a different schedule there too. Dd never napped there even when she was 12mo old and doing 9-5. (aaaargh)

So IME you have to adopt two different routines: A nursery day routine and a non nursery day routine.

In short, your nursery day routine might have no evening bottle, and an earlier bedtime, but a brief wake-up for a sleepy bottle in the night.
