Child suddenly bed wetting

My little boy is 4 and has been dry since he potty trained- so probably about a year. He’d very occasionally have accidents when he was poorly but has consistently been dry on a night now for about 6 months.
He has suddenly started wetting the bed- the last three nights I’ve gone to check on him about 10pm and he has been soaking wet each night. A quick Google informed me this could be diabetes but he hasn’t really got any other symptoms so I’m not sure what to do. He drinks like a fish through the day but always has done- he also wees lots during the day but again this is his normal. As far as I can see he has not lost weight. He’s not been eating as much as he normally does the past few days as well but he can be like this at the best of times.
i will also add he has a lot of stress factors at the minute- he had his last day at pre school on Friday which he was really upset about and been doing transition days at his new primary school recently.
Just wondering if I need to get him checked out to be safe- it’s obviously Sunday here so do I need to be taking him somewhere today or will it wait for a gp appointment through the week.

If he is otherwise well, I'd give it a few more days. It could be that he's coming down with something or that it is a stress response and that now pre school is finished and there'll be no more transition days, the summer holidays will mean he's thinking about that change less.

My DD (7) who has been absolutely dry at night for 4 years had a phase of wetting the bed recently. She had been very unwell so I think it was either fallout in the aftermath of that or related to stressful experiences in hospital.

I'd go and grab some nighttime pull ups today, so he can sleep easy and realise wetting isn't a huge issue. And see how he goes for a week or so.

I had the same with my DS potty trained, dry for 9+ months and then intermittent wet until he was 7.

The GP assured me it's ok and linked to hormones, tiredness, sickness and stress. This was after the checks for anything medical.

Could be a sign of having worms.

I was also coming on to say worms, but sounds like there is a lot going on for him socially and emotionally. Doesn’t hurt to de-worm anyway. Poor lad, good luck! X

Not sure if this link will work but it might be worth reading the OP's posts on this recent thread - her DC also drinks loads so it may be worth taking a look. Hopefully in your son's case it's just stress that's causing this recent bedwetting problem but just thought i'd flag the thread

Drinking lots and wetting was the first sign my DC had type 1 diabetes. It may not be this, it could be stress related and it’s not unusual that being unwell can set children back. I’d buy some pull ups for night times in the meantime.

Thank you all for your advice. I’m currently at work (funnily enough I’m a nurse but work in mental health) so my husband is keeping an eye on him today.
I think I’ll arrange a doctors appointment just to be safe- for the past few days I’ve also noticed he’s been excessively blinking over and over again. I initially put it down to allergies or stress again but now wondering if the two are linked. He’s also full of anger but again we were just putting it down to all the changes he is having at the minute- until the bed wetting started and then it got me thinking whether it could be something more.
