Is bum smegma normal?

Sorry for the title - wasn't sure what else to call it!

My 16 month old has always had a tiny bit of white stuff around his bum when I change him. I have considered it could be threadworms but have dealt with this before, I know what worms look and feel like, and I don't think it is worms. I've never seen him scratching his bum and haven't seen any sign of them in his bowel movements. The amount is very small and wipes away, it isn't sore or red or anything. It just looks and feels like smegma. Is it normal? Possibly thrush? His childminder hasn't said anything about it. I'm probably being a paranoid mother but can't really find any threads about similar. Tia x

No I don’t think it’s normal. Is it definitely not leftover nappy cream?

Turtlegurl888 · 11/07/2024 10:11

I very rarely use nappy cream because he just doesn't need it, so I doubt it's that. Just trying to avoid another trip to the GP as he's already got chicken pox and tonsillitis 😫 but may have to give them a ring.

Is he on antibiotics for the tonsillitis? Could well be thrush if so.

Turtlegurl888 · 11/07/2024 11:02

No antibiotics, it's a viral infection apparently so they haven't given anything. He has had thrush before as a newborn after antibiotics and that was accompanied by a nasty rash. It's like...bum cheese? Very, very small amount and wipes away, feels like bits of cream almost, but it's not cream.

Sounds like thrush!

Just to update in case anyone else is worried about bum cheese 😂 I've been changing his nappy every 90 minutes and it's completely stopped. Think it was material from the nappy coming off if he hadn't been changed for a few hours. Bad mom alert.
