Toddler pain pooing

Hi all, looking for some advice / experience please
my little girl is 2. She’s suffered with constipation on/off for a while. Initially given lactulose which didn’t help at all, and then movicol which helped. I stopped giving the movicol a few months ago as everything seemed okay again.
this last week though she has been passing really large , hard stools. This evening she was in a state, crying and in so much pain as she went. It’s like snooker balls!!
will speak to GP tomorrow but just wondered if anyone has any experience with this? Her diet is relatively good and she drinks lots of water…
thanks in advance x

I had similar with my toddler and giving him a few prunes a day has greatly helped along with reducing the amount of pasta and bread he eats

Thanks very much! Will get some prunes. She also eats a lot of pasta and bread so I’ll definitely try and reduce that!!

Definitely reduce pasta and bread if you can. Bread is a massive trigger for constipation. Those prune pouches you can buy for babies are really effective. Lots of fresh fruit and veg of course. Weetabix and orange juice are also good. Try and avoid laxatives as much as you’re able to, they can make bowels lazy long term.

Sorry just to add that we tried the prune baby pouches and they didn’t seem to make much difference, we swapped to the fresh pitted prunes from Tesco and they’ve worked a dream. The other issue we had was increasing his water intake but you’ve said that isn’t an issue for you. Also avoid bananas.

Sorry me again, as an alternative to pasta try egg noodles. You can still have similar dishes if you rely on a lot of pasta that way but it doesn’t seem to bung them up.

Need to get back to the gp and get movicol to sort out the current problem.

The advice above re laxatives making the bowel lazy isn't correct.

I'd also suggest you read info on ERIC website op x

Probiotics? My DD was similar but they have really helped
