Major health anxiety here so just hoping to be reassured 🌻
away on holiday in Turkey and my 8 year old came to tell me when she’d wiped after a poo it was bleeding- I went to see as she hadn’t flushed as was anxious and there was some red blood on the paper (not lots but definitely visible) she doesn’t seem sore or anything, could it just be a small tear?

Has she possibly got piles ? I think.when we are out of our routine it can have a negative effect on.our bowels. Ask her if she has been straining? Try and enjoy your holiday.

vincettenoir · 07/07/2024 18:45

As a one off for a couple of days this doesn’t seem too concerning. Lots of people get constipation on holidays and that can cause tears. Obviously if it’s still going on when you are back from your holiday then see the GP.

Sounds silly, but has she eaten anything red? Like red lollies etc? Sometimes the colour transfer to the poop!

Seagrassbasket · 07/07/2024 18:47

Could it be her period? Girls are starting younger these days

Donutsfirst · 07/07/2024 18:50

Definitely not her period, she just turned 8 and no signs of any bleeding from vagina, just when she wiped her bum. She’s never suffered from constipation and said she wasn’t straining so my health anxiety is obviously latching onto that ☹️ she’s not eaten anything red and it was definitely on the tissue paper ☹️but not loads. I’d say she’s Been eating a relatively normal diet here (basically her usual British diet just abroad 🤦‍♀️)

Sounds like an anal fisher. My daughter has this a lot. Did you have a look at her bottom and just check if its overly red or anything abnormal? Is it just some spots or streaks? By the sounds of it your daughter is otherwise well. Her bottom may become itcy in the coming hours it can be so irritating

Donutsfirst · 07/07/2024 20:28

It does look a bit red - nothing crazy but yes a bit red. How do they get anal fissures? Does it need a cream or can we just carry on? Resort annoyingly remote so not easy to get to a pharmacy ☹️

If it's bright red blood and not happening for more than a few days then it's nothing to worry about.

If it's black tar-like blood or happening for more than a few days then you need to go to the GP to get it checked.

ThePassageOfTime · 07/07/2024 20:35

This isn't uncommon in kids at all, likely due to a tear or irritation.

Unless it goes on for a period of time, nothing to worry about

SarahAldwin · 07/07/2024 20:38

It can be irritating for her. Once its open its really hard to get rid of them sadly! Could also be a change in the loo roll that can cause it. My DD 13 get really irritated by the itching but we try dap it try after a bath and reduce the friction in the area same with wiping after a poo x

MyTwinGirls · 08/07/2024 21:53

How is she doing OP? Sounds like others have said to be an anal fissures. Which the NHS website states "are most commonly caused by damage to the lining of the anus or anal canal, the last part of the large intestine" Both my DDs have had them in the past

BeanBeliever · 08/07/2024 22:30

Might be piles/a tear caused by travel, change of routine and doesn’t sound anything to worry about

Make sure she is drinking enough and plenty of fruit/veg/pulses etc for fibre and go easy on bread/dry foods to keep stools easy to pass

washing the area & using Vaseline or similar might help the irritation

Mandarina4 · 09/07/2024 14:54

This happened to my son when he was her age, it happened once in school and he freaked out, created a huge panic with the teachers and we ran to hospital, etc, etc... they analysed his stools, no blood. They said if the blood is bright red it's probably hemorrhoids, kids can also have them, especially if they're prone to constipation (he was when he was a toddler).
No pain, no fever, small amount of bright red on paper - nothing to worry about.
But I know those things look much worse when we are abroad. Here at home I try not to panic but when he gets ill on holidays, far away... that's scary.
