hello! Looking to see if anyone has been in a similar situation. My nearly 6 year old started feeling nauseous on sat afternoon and vomited a couple times, felt fine afterwards. Same thing had happened the following 4 days where nausea comes out of nowhere after 2pm and he gets sick a few times, complains about abdomen pain but then flips back to normal after 6pm. Took him to a&e blood and urine were normal, no fever or diarrhoea. Covid test negative. Doesn’t seem related to eating bc he even skipped lunch today and still vomited at the same time. Has anyone had a similar experience??

How’s his bowel movements, OP. I say this very lightly as a) I don’t know enough about your sons symptoms and b) I’m not a doctor, but if this doesn’t subside and the pain in his abdomen continues, it may be worth pushing for a bowel scan. My Mums had a few blockages and vomiting and abdomen pain were symptoms.
Hope he is okay x

Had he been doing anything in particular at this time that could have caused it? Just as it is a weekend and he is out of the usual routine, had he been on a trampoline or on a car journey after an activity for example? Sounds horrible though, poor lad.

Sama29 · 03/07/2024 23:39

@PickAChew did your children have it in a similar pattern? How many days in a row would they be sick?

@MummaMummaJumma his bowel movements have been relatively normal

@HcbSS weekend was home one day, a walk the 2nd day and school 3rd day, home the last 2 days so no doesn’t relate to what he’s doing.

How weird. Only other thing I can think of is a middle ear infection, which can make you horribly nauseous. Doesn’t explain why it was at this exact time though.

PickAChew · 04/07/2024 00:20

Ds1 had it on a much longer cycle of about 3 weeks but anything up to daily is possible. Ds2's was more irregular but probably because we spotted it and identified triggers far more quickly (and eventually drummed it into a stupid TA to stop giving him fucking chocolate biscuits!) Ds2 would get sleepy, hot and pale, fall asleep, wake up, decorate the room and then be as right as rain and eat a full meal.

Sama29 · 04/07/2024 06:51

@PickAChew when you say 3 weeks was it constant illness or an hour or 2 every day for 3 weeks and then fine the rest of the time?

The latter. Of course, with the 48 hour rule, we had lots of nasty letters from the EWO.

Sama29 · 04/07/2024 08:53

@PickAChew how frequent were his cycles? Does your family have a history of migraines? Thanks for your responses!

Guaranteed to be something he’s eating.

Cut out wheat and dairy for a few weeks as a good starting point.

I had what was called abdominal migraines as a child and both my daughters have/had Cyclical Vomiting syndrome now which turned out to be the same thing.
Interestingly Dd1 is now 14 and almost outgrown it as I did although she gets more "typical" migraines now. Her main triggers were anxiety and e100 numbers. Now it's mostly anxiety and strong scents.

Dd2 was a different case she started off with traditional migraines, she was given an MRI at 2.5 they were so frequent that they were concerned there was something else going on, although I'm a chronic sufferer as is my DM. Then we got those slightly under control over time and exactly the same as your DS she started vomiting and for her it was Saturday night and Sunday afternoon, then it increased to an episode during the week. With trial and error I (thought I )worked out her triggers were sausages and excitement. Then it started getting worse and we took her to the GP who just said oh it's CVS she'll grow out of it. It was getting horrendous she was vomiting almost every day, her chest was so sore from heaving and she was losing so much weight. I was using charts to see everything she was eating, what we were doing (not much!) anything that would help work out what it was. Our kitchen wall looked like something a film amateur detective would have up to solve a crime with charts and lines between bits of paper etc. Her birthday rolled around and my Aunt sent her a box of retro sweets and she was the worst I've ever seen it was exorcist style. I read and cross examined the ingredients and sulfites jumped out as the only common thing. I started to look at other things and discovered how many different things had sulfites (sausages were full of them so that explained them being first). We started to eliminate them and slowly saw improvement. Then I discovered how shit allergen labelling is here (NI) and how many sulfites aren't actually called sulfite eg. Dextrose or foods naturally high in it eg. Rapeseed oil. It's a nightmare in that she is very limited, we read EVERYTHING and we can't eat out, but ice cream or get a takeaway apart from 2 places. She can't take certain medications or even paracetamols due to the coating and antibiotics or anaesthetic are a minefield but it's also a huge relief now we know what to do.

Sama29 · 04/07/2024 11:25

@Objectionhearsayspeculation thanks for the thorough response. I am concerned about CVS since my husband’s family have a history of migraines, although nothing with the stomach. I’m still hoping it’s just a weird bug or something. Covid test was negative. He doesn’t normally eat dairy, he has a massive bowl of porridge with soy milk every morning (since he was 1) so we cut that out this morning and tried toast instead to see if that changes anything.

@Sama29 How is he now? My 2 year old has vomitting 2-3 times per week mainly overnight between 10pm and midnight. This has been ongoing for the past month. She also keeps getting a "dead arm" overnight. We saw the GP last week and referred to Paediatrics. Then had a phone call yesterday from the hospital asking to bring her to the ward for an immediate assessment. She had bloods taken but these are normal (I think as we were sent home and told they would call if abnormal). Now awaiting an MRI scan.

Sama29 · 09/07/2024 20:52

He’s had stomach pains on and off still and vomited again today but felt normal immediately after. So it’s not gone away but less consistent now. I’m calling the gp in the morning- want to get imaging done.

Hi how did this turn out? I have similar withal 3 year old

Sama29 · 17/08/2024 22:04

It just stopped after about 12 days and hasn’t returned. I don’t know if he had something like Covid. The doctor said he had gastritis which can be stress related and he was going through a lot of big emotions since we just moved from England to the US.

Ok good to know! We are on day 13 here +/- a day or 2 without. Going to a children's urgent care centre tomo. Brought him to GP last week and she said wait and see. I feel so bad for him feeling sick and vomiting every evening. Also he's losing weight :-(

Aklein38 · 05/04/2025 17:22

@Donimo did you get any answers as to what was causing this? Did it start with a fever at all?

@Sawa75 I'm having the same with my 3 year old and it's been on and off for a month. Did anything ever come of this? Did it start with a fever at all?

Donimo · 06/04/2025 07:03

@Aklein38 My daughter has tested positive for coeliac and we are awaiting a biopsy to confirm this. It didn't start with a fever. But she runs a low grade temperature (around 38 degrees) most of the time
