Really worried about my 9 month old… photos attached

I want to start by saying we have a doctors appointment tomorrow morning to get medical advice.

History
9 month old DD had a really rough start, horrific undiagnosed CMPA. She’s EBF so I cut all dairy from my diet, then soy. Doing much better. Under allergy consultant, dietician and eczema team. She has reflux and is on 15mg of omeprazole daily.

Current Concerns
For the last few months DD has been really purple under her eyes, some days it looks worse than others. Family members have told me it’s because she’s a naturally pale child but when I look at her it’s honestly all I can see. Last week, a stranger commented that she looked like she had purple eyeshadow on!!! They are not bruises or anything obviously, just very purple under eyes.

Of course, google tells me it’s the worst. Neuroblastoma, a childhood cancer. I worry because she also has the constipation, is sometimes very pale. Google will always tell you the worst but it’s made me feel quite anxious.

Otherwise she is developing well, crawling, pulling to stand and starting to cruise, babbling etc.

I was wondering if anyone has any experience with something similar? Thank you

This would not worry me in the slightest, OP.

bananaphon · 30/06/2024 10:56

Gorgeous little face! My DS is very pale like me and also looks purple under the eyes. Looks very normal to me.

time2changeCharlieBrown · 30/06/2024 11:06

Her eyes look totally normal to me
i think you’re worrying about that for no reason sounds like health anxiety
If you google raccoon eyes you’ll see it’s totally different from hers

ditalini · 30/06/2024 11:09

I hope you can get reassurance tomorrow op.

Those photos bear no resemblance to what I was expecting to see based on what you had written. She looks beautiful and her under-eye area is completely unremarkable to me.

excitedforbaby9 · 30/06/2024 11:19

Thanks everyone I really appreciate it.
I don’t think the photos honestly do it justice 🙈 but i appreciate I am really anxious! She’s just so precious. I wasn’t worried but honestly the comment last week was the final straw. SO many people have commented on them.
I will try and post a better photo if I can get one, looking at her in front of me now and on the photos it’s definitely worse in person.
Thanks for everyone’s reassurance, I know I’m probably being silly

I looked at the photo before reading the post and had no idea what it was about so clearly it isn't that obvious! My kid is pale and looks similar.

Mabelface · 30/06/2024 11:33

I've had the same all my life, as have 2 of my children who are naturally very fair skinned. Start practicing how to tell people to get to fuck for being so rude about your little bundle of gorgeousness.

QuickMaff · 30/06/2024 11:40

Each of my children had the same thing and none of them have any health issues. I always just assumed it was because they're pale like me, and it always seemed more prominent when they were tired or grumpy too. I think it's cute! I can find a pic of one of them where it's quite prominent if it will reassure you OP. X

Does your infant sleep with their mouth open or snoop?

Superscientist · 30/06/2024 16:58

There's an allergy symptom often referred to as "allergy shiners" where it looks like you have black eyes. Given the history it might be worth keeping a food and symptom diary

Daisybuttercup12345 · 30/06/2024 17:17

I think it looks normal x

imy · 30/06/2024 21:06

Hello, my younger sister has lots of allergies and has always had this too. In some childhood photos she looks like she's got two black eyes! My mum said that doctors have said to her before that they could tell my sister has allergies just by looking at her because of these dark circles. I think it just comes with the territory of being this sort of person unfortunately - she's allergic to lots of things, has hayfever, eczema etc. She's 26 now and still has them but nothing concealer can't mask :)

imy · 30/06/2024 21:06

ps your daughter has beautiful eyes!

Feverblack · 03/07/2024 00:19

As pp have said, my v pale and allergic child has these too. They may be especially bad at the moment due to pollen count. Mine also looks worse when unwell.

@excitedforbaby9 hey! How did you get on at the doctors about this ?

Hey, my daughters under an allergy consultant, I asked him twice at 2 appointments about it, both times he told me it’s nothing to worry about. Some days she doesn’t have it at all, some days she does. She’s absolutely thriving, running around and growing tall and chubby at 15 months. Was nothing to worry about. I’ve noticed she gets it when teething or snotty etc. think she is just see through!
