Nosebleeds every day in puberty

Hi, I'm wondering if there are any parents out that who have experience with teenagers getting nosebleeds during puberty. My 15 year old son has been getting them about twice a week for several years. 6 months ago he was examined by a doctor and he had blood tests which came back clear so he was signed off. However since then the nosebleeds have become more frequent, now every day. We have another appointment with our GP in 3 weeks time so we are waiting for that. It's hard not to worry that there is something more seriously wrong so I wondered if there are others who have experienced this with their children during puberty. Thank you.

Yes a couple of my boys and one girl got this. It does stop when they get older. Never did find out why.

My brother had this and so did DS, both of them just grew out of it with no further problems.

I used to get them all the time too, just grew out of it and haven't had one for years now. My 9yo DD gets them quite often too.
If they're very bad and frequent you can get your nose cauterized.
Check whether there's something that triggers them though, mine got a lot better when i stopped using feather pillows/duvets and they were always worse in hayfever season so some beconase could help

Thank you so much for the replies. The advice online suggests that it's very unusual for them to be this frequent so it's good to know that it's not that uncommon.

Hormonal changes can impact mucosal linings such as in the nose.

It's why pregnant women get a tonne of nosebleeds too!

I did and grew out of them, DD has but we have managed to reduce their frequency after a prescription for naseptin (can also try germolene from chemist).

@MagdaMol
appreciate this is old but just wondering what happened with your DS?
my DS is nearly 12 and has had quite a lot in the past, have been to GP and had bloods done but no action was needed.
anyway at the moment he’s getting them every day!
i remember a friend at school getting them very often too, hopefully it’s hormonal related and they just grow out of it?’

The thing that worked for us was Naseptin nasal cream. It seemed to toughen up the membranes and stop the bleeding. His nose bleeds have all but completely stopped now. I think it was just a growth spurt that caused them (maybe hormones too?) and the cream just helped repair the tissues

Hi this is really useful thanks. Just googled, is it via prescription or can I just ask for it at the pharmacy. At once a day at the moment I feel we need to try something!

One of my teens had to have 3 lots of nasal cautery. He also has a deviated septum and is a bit of a picker, so that’s the perfect storm for nosebleeds, some of which were spectacular.
