3 weeks on now and his still got swollen lymph node. Quite visible especially when his asleep. It looks massive.

when shall I be worried. Noticed tonight his having night sweats too!

anyone else experienced this with their children? Do I worry now?

My children have swollen lymph nodes after a virus / illness. Just ask your GP to have a feel of them but sometimes they can take an age to go down. Some children’s (my DS for instance) have very obvious and palpable nodes (often times due to lack of fat padding) so they are visible even when child is well. How is your child otherwise? I wouldn’t worry but just ask a GP for their advice.

My daughter had this last year (aged 4). She had a couple of thorough examinations by gps, then was referred for an ultrasound which revealed that it was just a swollen lymph node, no need to worry. The Dr who rang to give me the results said that some children get this after an infection. Once you've seen your GP (hopefully you'll get an appointment soon) you'll know things are moving.

You definitely need to see a GP but don’t panic. My DS used to have a lump in his neck quite frequently at that age. He’s an adult now and nothing came of it.

Hi, hope the doctors went ok. Just to let you know we’re going through similar, except my daughter hasn’t been poorly for around 4/5 months. I noticed a pea size lump in the same place as your little ones, we went to the GP on Monday, she thinks it’s a regular lymph node. I don’t know how long it’s been there, so I’m worried. We’ve been referred for a scan but it’s not for a few weeks. It’s a worry. She’s five. X

Hey

Dr checked him over today and definitely confirmed it’s swollen lymph nodes. That’s the problem we don’t know how long it’s actually been there. Only noticed it after he had bad tonsils.

they told me first step is to check his bloods and white cells count. Then we will know if he needs scan. She wouldn’t refer me to scan first.

fingers cross the bloods come out ok as we all know what those white cells mean.

I tried to get private scan appointment and offered to pay but even then the dr will need to write a referral and she said at this point it’s not necessary.

I hope you get some answers too hun. We going for bloods Monday xx

Glad you got some reassurance. I think it seems quite common coming from some posts on here and after speaking to friends.
hopefully it’s all nothing.
my little one had tonsillitis twice over winter and also scarlet fever and various sickness bugs (I think due to it being her first year in school) so im hoping it’s just left over from one of those.
its funny how different doctors suggest different things first. I thought we would have had a blood test too but they said just easier to do the scan? Xxx

ThePassageOfTime · 22/06/2024 11:25

It's great doctor is checking but try not to worry - my daughter had lymph nodes like that all the time when she was little, even without any visible infection (she must have been fighting stuff off).

Honestly strangers could spot them on the street. They stayed for weeks too.

Same here - I was expecting blood tests but it was straight to a scan.

ScoobyBooby · 22/06/2024 14:08

Both my sons have had this . Eldest sons took ages to go down as he kept getting some kind of virus .

Youngest always seems to be present although smaller than your sons . He’s got multiple allergies so assuming that’s why . Been seen by the GP and hospital many times and been told don’t worry about it .

They can take weeks to go down after a virus . Try not to worry too much and hope it goes down quickly x

@Latenightreader how is your little one? Did theirs last months? I feel like my Dds has been there a good while. What happened at the scan? Xx

She is absolutely fine, the lump took ages to go away and pops up when she is unwell. When we had the scan they used an ultrasound wand on her neck and said it all looked very normal (possibly phrased differently - can't quite remember) and they were really good at explaining what was going on to her. I had a reassuring phone call a couple of days later from my GP when she had the results through.

Mrsworried1 · 22/06/2024 16:31

Did they tell you anything on the day? Xx

Charllou · 27/08/2024 00:53

Hi how did this turn out? My 5yo has had one on her neck for a year. Bloods clear. Examined by 5 drs all said it’s linked to the HUGE tonsils she has. Still worry a lot about it

Mrsworried1 · 27/08/2024 21:30

@Charllou hi we had a scan and they said it was normal. Looks huge to me. She’s still got it and I’d say it must have been there for months now. Doctor said don’t worry. I still do a tiny bit though. X

My daughters is under the jaw. Did your little one have bloods too? Horrible isn’t it having it on your mind. Just wish it would go away.
