Eczema

Hey!
just after some advice! My daughter has suffered with really bad eczema since about the age of 1. Constant trips to the doctors, lots of different creams, steriod creams (tried to stay away from these unless it was really bad). Doctor eventually referred us to the dermatologist last year but the waiting list was crazy. Just after Christmas she had a really bad flare up, so we decided to pay private for allergy testing, using a method called Applied Kinesiology. We were told she had ‘intolerances’ to a lot of things! Gluten, wheat, oats, eggs, milk, the list is quite long!! So we cut everything out. Her skin has finally settled! Anyway, last week, we had her appointment with the dermatologist. I explained we had been and paid for this allergy testing, cut out these foods etc. The dermatologist told me not to cut out any food, that eczema isn’t necessarily caused by foods, although some foods can irritate it. She said it is most likely hereditary, as her dad and his siblings all had it around the same age too and they grew out of it quite quickly. We feel so conflicted now and confused! It’s all so contradicting!! Any help or advice is appreciated x

Well Applied Kinesiology is bollocks. And they have given you a hit list of all the trendy food allergies and no instructions on how to feed your child a healthy diet.

Meanwhile the dermatologist is a highly trained specialist.

Hi

I’ll be no help regarding the allergies, but I have eczema on a part of my face that flares up at times and like you for DD, I try to avoid steroid cream as it makes it better in the short term but then it’s back worse. It’s like a viscous cycle as you’ll know

I struggled to find any other creams that eased it and one that was supposed to be for eczema (very well known brand) made it so sore and worse. Anyway the only thing that helps and gives me relief is the Aveeno baby emolument (oatmeal one).

It seems to act like a barrier to enable my eczema to calm down and I rarely need to use the steroid cream now. I don’t think I’ve used it once this year!

Hope you get to the bottom of it for DD.

Literally the first hit on Google for applied kinesiology describes it as 'pseudoscience '.

The dermatologist has advised that some foods may irritate eczema- but your child is very likely to grow out of it.

And they are right as a quack has got you to give up a vast number of foods, the irritation has gone but you are left with a struggle to feed an appropriate diet, and no idea what was irritating the eczema as the list of foods excluded is so long.
