Any idea what this is on son's leg?

This mark/bruise/blood blister has appeared on my son's leg between his knee and hip. Any ideas what it may be? He hasn't knocked it and it doesn't hurt. It's slightly raised.

Notoriously hard to get a doctors appointment and not sure if it merits an appointment or if we should wait to see if it goes?

I have/ had something like this on my leg. It comes and goes. At the moment it looks like a skin coloured mildly raised mole. It is scratch it or rub it or knock it it fills with blood, gets bigger and deep purple/ black in colour and then it gradually shrinks again. I saw a GP and a dermatologist who seem to think it’s a quirky blood vessel thing and to leave it alone.

My immediate thought was some kind of bite. I’d def try the GP tomorrow.

@PTG123 haemangioma?

@PTG123 haemangioma?

I’ve just googled and as was going to say that too.

I know it's not as big, but my son had something 'similar' 4 years ago. It was on his abdomen, appeared as a tiny dot & got slightly bigger & was raised. I forgot the actual name of it, but docs said it was a broken blood vessel that had kind of been 'leaking' under the skin, in the end, he had it frozen/ burnt off.

Omg people suggesting A&E are part of the reason A&E often has 6+ hour waiting times. This is neither an accident or immediate life or death emergency.

Couldn't agree more. This is neither an accident nor an emergency.
A gp appointment as soon as you can get it is what I would do.

determinedtomakethiswork · 20/06/2024 09:12

I think I would get an appointment. It's not improving over time but getting worse.

Lillieloola · 20/06/2024 09:16

Looks like heamangioma.

Susieblue18 · 20/06/2024 20:50

My son had something similar appeared on his buttock when he was about 12. Took him to a dermatologist and he said it was a haemangioma. I thought they were visible from birth but it seemed to develop. He’s in his 20’s now, not sure if it’s still there or not!

Hi OP, did you find out what this was?

DuckDuckGoosieGander · 17/08/2024 12:34

Thank you so much to everyone that answered and helped. The doctor referred him and it is indeed a hemangioma. We're told it's harmless but he could have it removed if wished at some stage. We've decided to leave it at present as it's not causing a problem. Apologies for the slow update but a close family bereavement has occupied our thoughts.
