Jarred sauces ok for toddlers?

We avoid adding salt to 22 month old's food based on NHS recommendations. Most of what we provide is cooked fresh or toddler based with low to no salt.

At the childminders they used jarred sauces (Mac n cheese, spaghetti etc)and I notice it's a longer time period before she poos, almost over a day, when she returns home. I suspect the sauce has salt, if not high in salt as I don't know exactly what brand they use .

I am starting to wonder if I should send home cooked meals for her to have there as I'm worried about long term effects of her having salty food so young. We avoid giving her sugar and try to keep her meals and snacks healthy.

Husband says it's only 2 meals a week so it's not a big deal(same with her grandma giving her half a digestive and god knows what else from her badly diabetic husband)

Any thoughts?

2 meals a week probably isn't a big deal. Before you switch to sending in meals, can't you ask the childminder what sauces she ends to use? They may be low salt anyway (I assume you can get low salt versions of sauces like that?)

Why are you bringing diabetes into this? Half a digestive biscuit isn’t going to do her any harm in the slightest, you are being quite frankly ridiculous OP.

A small amount of jarred sauce or a bit of biscuit isn't going to harm her. You need to relax before you drive yourself mad.

Bodies need salt and sugar to function. They're perfectly safe in moderation.

Have you asked the CM what sauces they use?

Badly diabetic? Hmm

The amount of sauce used in your average toddler portion is negligible. I get not adding it at home but I couldn’t imagine giving this headspace, and definitely wouldn’t be adding extra work by making meals. I usually make from scratch at home but childcare is there to make life easier and we like eating out so it’s not perfect but I think it balances out. It’s only 2 days a week, what possible long term effects could there be? And the odd digestive at Granny’s is fine. Also, almost over a day before she poos also sounds like a normal frequency for a not quite 2 year old or am I missing something? Maybe she eats less fruit there or drinks less or something but it doesn’t sound like a big issue and definitely not one that would come from a spoonful of jarred pasta sauce.
