Down Syndrome High Chance Result

Hi

Looking for some experiences.

I have been told today that my baby has a high risk of down syndrome (1 in 135), I am waiting for a NIPT test to confirm, but really concerned.

The results were:

hCGb - 1.02 Corr.MoM
PAPP-A - 0.55 Corr.Mom
NT - 2.7mm

Has anyone been through this before and what was the outcome?

Thanks in advance :)

Anecdotally, the threshold for high PAPP-A seems to create a lot of "high risk" designations (especially if in mid/late 30s) that are then revised down after then NIPT. Don't think too many moves ahead until it's completed.

Sorry I should have said, I am 30 years old.

I in 135 is still 134 in 135 do not have Down's. You'd reckon that was pretty good odds for most things.
Wait until you've had further checks.

Hi, my DD actually had a 1:19 chance of having DS due to having a very high nuchal fold measurement (it was around 5mm if I recall). I had an amnio and all was fine and she was born perfectly healthy 🙂 hope all is OK for you too

Myridiculousstomach · 15/06/2024 21:21

1 in 50 for DS. Couldn’t bring myself to have an amniocentesis so waited to see when he was born and he didn’t have it.

1 in 100 for friend’s baby - she had the amniocentesis and her baby did have it.

I was older than you (which accounted for some of my risk) but I was given at 1:200 risk after my initial scan / blood test. A high nucal fold measurement bumped it up further. I can't remember what the numbers were. It was the most awful 7 days waiting for the NIPT results but came back as negligible risk (something like 1:100,000) and baby was born perfectly healthy.

I agree with PP - don't think too far ahead wondering "what if...". Have your NIPT, ask lots of questions of the midwife if you need to, and wait for the result.

Mine (now 13 years old) was 1 in 2. (I was 36). I had the amnio and he was was totally fine. I understand your worry but try not to. It's still a very small chance.

I had that too. Just remember it's still a very low risk. Good luck!
