Lump in 2yo neck

Hi everyone! Hoping someone can help

My 2yo DS has a lump on the right side of his neck. It started off a few months ago minuscule to the point I thought I was just seeing things, but I've noticed in the last couple of days it's gotten bigger. You cant feel it, and you can only see it if he is yelling, moving his head all the way back or just at a funny angle. Doesn't seem to bother him at all.

My friend thought it could just be a swollen lymph node but he's not been sick in at least 6months, so I'm not fully convinced.

Has anyone seen this before? The earliest appt at the GP I can get is the end of the month I'm just concerned I should be going sooner?

Does anyone know what this could be?

Thanks in advance!!

My 5 year old has this too. I did take him to the doctors about it a few years ago but they were completely unconcerned. I notice it more some times than others although if I notice it more when he’s been ill I’m not sure. I’m pretty sure they said it was a lymph node.

I would also say lymph node - you have them running in chains down your neck. Sometimes, in children, they can go into overdrive and swell up quite large and can take a long time to go down. I would still speak with a GP for peace of mind, but hopefully it is just an activated lymph node. Has he had any jabs in the last few months? Even a sore throat could cause a lymph node to become enlarged.

@PippetyPoppetyPie Very happy to hear they said it was okay for your LO! Puts my mind at ease massively 🙂

@MrsBillyhargrove No jabs and not even a sniffle! I'm starting to feel a bit better, but will be definitely taking him to the GP just to be sure!

Thank you both!

DS1's lymph gland came up at the same age - he still has a little lump there and is nearly 9! Definitely worth getting it checked just in case but apparently it's very common, he didn't (and doesn't) even notice it Smile

My DS 2 has the same thing - it's been there for months now. Seems to be a bit more prominent when he's poorly, but it's always visible.

It's been looked at by the GP and they said it was nothing to worry about, but was definitely worthwhile getting it checked!

Did you tell the receptionist it was foe an unexplained lump, surely they will see him much sooner than a month away? Or try and online consult thet a doctor will read.

Thanks so much everyone! My mind is definitely more at ease seeing this is quite common and nothing to worry about :)

@WonderingWanda Yes let them know it was for a lump and the end of the month is the earliest they had
