Hi all, my son is 11 and has been diagnosed with dyslexia and I'm pretty sure has ADHD but at the moment can't afford to get him an assessment privatley. We have been down the school route and they are basically saying they don't think he's bad enough to be given an assessment. My sons mind races so much especially at night, he thinks of everything! Dying, his family dying, him dying and it being dark (blind) and him not being able to find us in afterlife. His thoughts run away with him. His skin picking is getting worse he is the most people pleasing kind person you could meet who likes to make everyone happy he's 100 miles an hour like you get 40 conversations in 1 lol and they are all mostly about games 🎮 he's always out all the time with friends but he's infatuated with games, downloading games add ons for games ect. I'm looking for any advice? I have tried kids calming gummies and sleep ones but nothing is working. I have seen online about CBD so wanna get some advice on it specially for the nights really.

Is the school the only way you can get him on a waiting list for assessment?

TinaH1985 · 06/06/2024 16:29

Yes hun, the doctors said it's best coming from the school as they carry more weight and atm it seems if they don't deem them as serious you stay on the waiting list for years x

Thought my ds had ADHD and he got diagnosed with dyslexia. Years later he had a friend who was diagnosed with ADHD and he saw himself in the friend. Anyway he started drinking caffeine (coffee, energy drinks) and it seemed to help. He was about 17 at the time. Google it as I think there is evidence around it. I read that ADHD is often diagnosed as dyslexia.

I'd go back to the GP. They can definitely refer.

In the meantime look up some tactics for regulating when you have ADHD. The SN Teen board in here is usually very good too Flowers
