Patches on daughter's back

Around 4 days ago my DD had 5 of these rough, scaly feeling patches appear on her back. Any thoughts on what these could be?

Hopefully the pic appears

Looks like patches of eczema to me, my DD also gets them. We find using aveeno twice a day clears them up, then once a day as maintenance to stop them coming back. Sometimes we have to get a steroid cream from the doctor if they appear somewhere we've neglected to put aveeno on but generally the once daily application keeps it at bay.

Thank you for your reply.

I did wonder about eczema but it's not at all itchy and appears more brown than red.

Looks like they’re broken blood vessels or is that just a poor photo? Has your child been ill at all/ recovering from illness?

Sakiyaan · 03/06/2024 21:08

Probably just poor camera quality. They're not broken blood vessels as they are rough feeling. Almost like the texture of how scabs may be. She has not been unwell and is absolutely fine in herself.

My DD's eczema isn't itchy, just little rough patches of skin that get worse if we don't moisturise enough. When I first looked at the photo I was on my phone but I'm on my laptop now and I'm not so sure about it being eczema. It would be worth taking her to a pharmacist so they could have a look, or even the GP, do they have an online triage service that you can send the photo to?

Sakiyaan · 03/06/2024 21:12

Yes, I think I will take a visit to the pharmacy and see if they have any ideas.

Thank you.

DD got something similar from carpet burns, throwing herself on the floor and asking me to pull her, practicing her dance moves etc.

Sakiyaan · 03/06/2024 21:31

Thank you, that could be a possibility… her and her brother do throw themselves around on the floor a lot.

I would say carpet burns too - not bad enough to cause bleeding at the time but leaving a sandpaper-y scabbiness after a few days.

EnglishBluebell · 04/06/2024 14:47

My first thought was actually Ringworm

TheDerbyDoc · 05/06/2024 13:56

Looks like mild dry skin. Would apply a simple emollient like E45 to see if that resolves it. Its not ringworm.

Thank you for all your responses. Not 100% sure what it was, but it’s mostly gone now.
