Help Diagnosing a Rash

DD (5) has come out in this rash. It was initially on her face and neck, but it's now on her arms and legs. Not itchy, she has no other symptoms and is very well in herself.

I assumed it was a heat rash and gave her kids piriton, but it doesn't seem to be making much of a difference. It's been about a week now.

Anyone have any ideas? The pharmacist says try the doctor, but that'll take weeks.

Hard to tell without seeing in the flesh but looks most like idiopathic urticaria (ie slightly lumpy rash secondary to viral illness). Managed with time and occasionally antihistamines. The other possibility is something called erythema multiforme which is again normally in response to a viral infection. a GP will be able to confirm when seeing face to face.
Neither of these are normally anything to be concerned about and resolve on their own.

Looks like one of mine with slapped face.
Was it very much on the cheeks with a bit of a white gap round the mouth?

weareallqueens · 04/06/2024 21:35

Thanks @TheDerbyDoc. It did indeed resolve on its own and is nearly gone.

Not slapped cheek I don't think @MargaretThursday - she had no other symptoms at all.

Agree it looks really typical of the lace like rash in slapped cheek (parvovirus), some kids aren't unwell in themselves with parvovirus so could still be that. Can take a week or so to settle.

@weareallqueens
Dd1 had no other symptoms with slapped face, literally just the rash, which, like you I assumed was an allergy. I remember her playing totally happily in the paddling pool with nothing wrong with her except the rash.
I'd not have realised it was anything much except dd2 got it in full force and was very ill for a few days, then when the doctor saw her, she took one look at dd1 and said she'd got it too.

Maybe it was then. It would probably have been weeks before we'd have got near a doctor so I guess we'll never know. Grin

Op just curious as to why it would be weeks before you’d se a doctor?

weareallqueens · 06/06/2024 21:31

It tends to be about 10 days wait for a phone consultation and then a week or two after that for a face to face. I don't call them any more unless it's something really major.
