4 Month Old Significantly Low body temp

Hi all, just to keep it sharp and simple —

My 4 month old had the 12 week vaccine on Monday (a bit later due to a previous cold)… she fevered as expected which is fine and went down with Calpol… fast forward to now — DH and I are anxious and worried as her temp has dropped to 35.5 and she is noticeably irritable and so tired. Her chest and back are quite cold and chilled but hands and feet warm.

This is now 4 days later… we know what to do with high fevers but seems there is no guidance for a very low temp.

We did see a GP two days ago and she said that it should go back to normal after 48 hours but here we are again tonight.

Any other experience or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks.

What thermometer are you using? My dd had the same thing with her baby a couple of weeks ago when he had his jabs. His temperature read very low. We all took our temperature using the thermometer and apparently we were all hypothermic .

Hello, do you take her temperature at other times? One of little ones is always about 36 exactly when well so I know anything less or more indicates something might be going on.

Use the Lullaby Trust baby check app for guidance on her overall symptoms and then go back to the GP or 111 if in the UK this weekend if you have any worries at all. They'd much rather see a tiny one just in case.

Hi @CremeFresh and @5475878237NC thank you for your quick replies.

We are a ball of nerves as you can imagine so quite nice to speak quick.

Yes, we have been using the Braun Ear Thermometer and went old school with the under arm — strangely underarm read higher than the ear and was up to 35.7 instead.

DH and I checked on ourselves and ours are a normal 36.8 for us… we were told straight to A&E if 35 but at 35.5 and she’s in a onesie and we’ve got a nice warm fleece blanket around her and it’s still 35.5… not budging.

Also, yes. We’ve been checking every 3 hours since this AM and highest has been 36.

In that case, I'd take her back to the doctor xx

Have you tried 111?

I'm not a medic. The only info I recall on low temp (besides hypothermia) is as a sign of sepsis.
