Eczema and reaction to milk when weaning - should I ask for a second Dr opinion?

Baby is 6, nearly 7, months and has had eczema since 3 months. When I’ve tried her with any food containing milk e.g. baby porridge or Ready Brek, she gets a stinging nettle type rash around her mouth where the food has been and for up to 24 hours later has bad smelling wind and poo, like she has an upset stomach. Asked the HV team and they said speak to a GP. The GP I spoke to is lovely and said to avoid milk products for now and stick to fruits and veges. He said baby seems to be thriving so he’s not wanting to send for allergy testing yet. I understand what he means but I’m mindful of baby getting all the nutrients she needs now she’s over six months. I’m wondering if it’s worth getting a second opinion about this or do I just find other ways to try make up for the nutrients that come from milk? He didn’t give any idea of when to try milk again. I think just giving fruits and veges ‘as she’s so young’ is slightly outdated advice and although I respect this GP as he’s always been brilliant, I’m just worried that there’s more I can be doing to help my daughter if I know if she has allergies and what they are.

Hi
My daughter had a bad reaction to cows milk at 6 months and was taken to hospital for 3 days to recover. She had an obvious allergy to cow’s milk (as she was exclusively breastfed for 6 months). She was prescribed a different formula. And also referred to a Dietician where we were advised about the milk ladder. We followed it strictly and my daughter was weaned onto cow’s milk within a year or so. She is 8 now and hasn’t been allergic to cow’s milk since. I would defo ask the gp to refer you to a Dietician

On the otherhand my son suffered from severe eczema from 6 months but we couldn’t find the cause. I tried eliminating different food from his diet to figure out what it was but nothing worked. I do remember cutting out milk and dairy for a while and he had lost so much weight I regretted doing that. Looking back what I needed was an allergy test which was never offered at the time despite his eczema. He was referred to the dermatolagist but no allergy testing for food was done until he was 6 years old my son had a cashew nut for the first time and had a full blown anaphylaxsis was the scariest thing ever. After that they ran some allergy tests and we foind that he is allergic to certain nuts. Since cutting out the nuts his eczema has improved alot. So I would defo push for a dietician and allergy testing.
sorry for the long post!

Goodness that must have been scary with your daughter and with your son too! No need to apologise for the long post, you’ve been very helpful thanks.
