My 1 year old is plagued with eczema on his stomach, back and face. The face looks a lot more typical but this is how it presents on his back. He's had these spots of eczema for months now, I can't get them to budge. They just look different to how I'm used to eczema presenting

Poor little thing. Have you been to the GP? It seems like a dermatologist referral would be helpful.

TaupeRobin · 19/05/2024 18:11

Second the dermatologist referral.

RagzRebooted · 19/05/2024 18:12

How recently have you been to the GP? Some of those patches look like they may be infected, they're quite red and scabby.

BridgetJonesDaiquiri · 19/05/2024 18:13

Could be impetigo. Go see the GP and they will likely prescribe fucidin (antibiotic cream)

TeddyBeans · 19/05/2024 18:13

It looks like it might be nummular eczema which is what my son was diagnosed with. His looked like ringworm to start with but this looks like it's very sore. Poor sausage! I agree with PPs about getting a dermatologist referral

BurntToACinder · 19/05/2024 18:15

Look a bit like discoid eczema.

eczemum · 19/05/2024 18:36

Oh believe me I'm desperately trying to get him referred to dermatology. GP and health visitor have both said they can't refer direct to dermatology so both have done a separate paediatrics referral so we can see paeds who can then if they deem necessary refer to derm. How long were going to be waiting is anyone's guess.

Agree it does look impetigo-ey, but it's been there for months (talking double digits) it varies in severity but it's always there. Don't think impetigo would last that long, he's had a couple of (unrelated) courses of antibiotics in that time that haven't affected it, he did get prescribed fucidin last week for the eczema on his chin as he'd scratched at so much it was infected. I popped a dab on a couple of these spots on his back just to see if it made a difference (the dark ominous looking one at the top!) and it hasn't, unfortunately, had hoped that would be some secret cure..

Another vote for discord eczema, this is what my daughter is diagnosed with. Poor thing!

eczemum · 19/05/2024 21:20

Anyone with experience of discoid eczema what works on it? He's 10 days off steroids atm. It kept clearing with eumovate then coming back after weaning off so I thought I'd try and see if I could find a non steroid way of healing it.. but I haven't and it's getting very bad now!

Can you go private?

Poor little guy

BurntToACinder · 20/05/2024 14:22

I’ve had experience of discoid eczema.
The most important things for me were to eliminate fragranced products - no soap or bubble bath etc as they are too harsh on the skin, switch to a soap substitute (like Oilatum or something prescribed - although I think there is some fragrance in Oilatum) If you use biological washing powder switch to non bio. That was enough for me, but apparently you can get more natural clothes washing products in health shops.
Also a good emollient like diprobase or zero cream applied several times of day.
Steroid creams when very bad.

Aww how's your little one getting on? I agree with no fragranced products and non bio laundry etc. With my youngest I used some natural products that really helped while waiting for derm appointment - some avocado balm sticks by Callidora AVOCADO SKIN BALM – Callidora (mycallidora.co.uk) I applied it several times a day, their bath melts are great too. They were soothing and helped clear it up. Hope this helps if you give it a try.
