Sudden eczema on 7 year old around eyes

Ds with no prior skin problems suddenly developed what appeared to be eczema/contact dermatitis on his wrists/hands last summer. This has progressed to his eyelids which are really dry and uncomfortable. The GP has prescribed steroids for the hands but these obviously can’t be used on his eyelids.

i have no idea what is causing it but I desperately want to make it comfortable for him. Will he have this for life now? What should be my next steps to working out how to relieve his symptoms and reduce it? He has been referred to the dermatologist but that is still months away and just wondered what I could do in the mean time.

any advice gratefully received.

Dd3 has similar and they told us to use hydrocortisone cream lightly for 5 days max.

Dd has it on her eyelids too and we were also given hydrocortisone cream for it.

Ask for Tacrolimus. It’s a Topical Calcineurin Inhibitor and approved for children over the age of 2. It has no steroids. Some GPs are a bit reluctant to prescribe it because it is relatively new. You could check with the National Eczema Society Helpline and then tell your GP that you have researched with them.

Double base flare up cream you can get on amazon we get it via my daughters dermatologist it's amazing we no longer need any topical steroid creams

Thanks for all the recommendations- GP prescribed epimax ointment for eyes- so we will see if that helps. But I will be asking about your suggestions if it doesn’t.
