Can anyone give advice or tips for fuelling a very sporty tall 15 year old boy. He is 6" 5 and weighs about 12st. BMI looks normal range. He plays lots of sport but has frequent episodes of fainting after or during sports - which isn't great as he feels awful and is effecting his sport. Have seen the GP a while ago and they said just as he is tall he has vaso vagal episodes. I think he needs way more meat on his bones. I just can't seem to get enough long lasting food in him. Has anyone got some food ideas that may help him put on weight and how often he should be eating. He is very partial to eating crap and I wonder if he is eating too many snacks then not his main meals. Stuck in a cycle!

I would look at improving his breakfast and upping the protein to 40g. Maybe include full fat yoghurt topped with nuts or an omelette. Cereal will just be making him more hungry.

I thought I read somewhere that the body only absobs 20g of protein or thereabouts in one meal, so it should be spread out during the day for best absorbsion.

This has been found not to be true.

Breakfast is tricky as being 15 and grumpy in the morning and everyone in a rush. He is now having two porridge pot things. He likes the pouch protein yoghurts. They are expensive though! He won't entertain full fat yoghurt with nuts. I do that and love it. They really do eat you out of house and home.... Hopefully he will get the all clear from the Drs and then we will continue to try and feed him properly.

Reading the list of food he eats in a day, something that jumps out at me is the afternoon snack. Does he play sport between this snack and having dinner? If so the sugar come down from the mostly-sugary snack might be coinciding with him exerting himself exercising. Before sports I give DD things like Kargs seeded crackers along with chunks of cheese and apple. Combination of fibre and protein.

Bananas also have some chemical in them that has a calming effect. I eat them before an event if I'm nervous.

Surely they need to give a blood test to Check for low iron if fainting episodes?
