Really grateful for thoughts from anyone with experience or expertise!
My 6 yo (almost 7 yo!) boy was late to be dry through the night, he was in nappies until about a year ago. We didn't pressure him to come out of them, I was aware of the science behind the hormone production, etc. He wasn't shamed by us though possible that he told a couple of school friends who might have commented...
Since being out of nappies, he seems to wake early in the morning to go to the toilet, and be absolutely unable to get back to sleep afterwards.
His bed is comfortable, linens are clean, duvet is the right weight. We keep his window slightly open for ventilation but live in a very quiet area so don't think it's noise disturbing him. I give him magnesium and use lavender oil on his bedding and he has a musical nightlight that "plays him to sleep".
All this works great at his bedtime (around 8pm) and he's reliably asleep within 10 mins.
But at 3am (!) none of it works and he's wide awake, reading or listening to his Tonie box, from then onwards.
I've tried lying next to him and singing lullabies, like I did when he was tiny, but he's just wide awake, eyes open, fidgeting - until 6am and he's really up!
He's doing well in school but has massive bags under his eyes and keeps getting ill with sore eyes and sore throats - basically every bug going! - and I'm sure being sleep-deprived isn't helping his immune system AT ALL.
I thought at first it was a phase that he'd grow out of but it's basically been a year and if anything he's waking earlier and earlier, not later and later.
What else can I do to support him? Is it worth a GP trip? I have Bupa through work but who would they even refer to?
