Hi all,

Just noticed this while brushing DD teeth this morning. What is it and why?? She has been known to grind her teeth sometimes but not to this extent. She has always had healthy teeth according to dentist.

What is the cause of this dent in DD tooth?!

It may not be a dent but that the tooth has twisted round either at or prior to eruption. Cuspids do have a natural ridge at the back, this looks like the tooth has rotated.

So the ridge which is usual behind the surface of to tooth is now side on and visible.

Baby teeth are very soft and wear very easily. Some children wear the front teeth down to the gum , more or less, before adult teeth come through. Occasionally the enamel on front teeth is not formed well so they chip . Don't worry it's not likely to repeat in the adult teeth . Little chips like this on front teeth are not a concern .

This is not a cuspid (canine ) which anyway does not have a ridge and it is not a bicuspid (premolar) which has a ridge .
It is a baby incisor tooth which has worn or chipped.

That's good to know. She's only 3 and I have had really bad teeth myself since I was young (due to parental neglect, not genetics) so I don't really know how 'typical' baby teeth look and get terrified if one of them looks slightly off!

It must be very recent as that tooth has always been straighter.
