Should I cancel 1 year jabs?

My daughter turned 1 last week, got her appointment for 12 month jabs later today.

However, she has a cold. She had one last week, and then I'm sure got another one over the weekend - she was very grizzly on Sunday, and had a slight temp on Monday.

She seems fine now, doesn't seem to have a temperature but does still have a runny nose. I don't actually have a thermometer as ours broke 🤦🏻‍♀️ but my mom is coming over with hers this morning so I'll see what it says then.

Her elder brother has just come down with a temperature and is clearly not in a great mood, and it occurred to me after the jabs my daughter will doubtlessly be in a bad mood too - which then made me wonder if the jabs will be too much to handle on top of the cold/remnants of the cold?

Just wondered what people thought I should do. I'd rather not reschedule if possible, as I live in the West Midlands where measles is going round. But if it will be too much for her immune system to handle then I'll have to wait!

“Your baby can still have their vaccinations if:they have a minor illness without a temperature – such as a cold”

I’d take mine if they seemed otherwise ok.

I'd take her, give her sine Calpol before you go and tell the Nurse your concerns. If the Nurse doesn't think it's wise they can always rebook.

Thank you both!

Slight complication, though - when I wrote this post, I'd just got her up and changed her nappy without changing her clothes. When I went to get her changed, I noticed her stomach is covered in spots 😭 I think it might be chickenpox.

Of course, I can't get through to the GPs phone line to cancel the appointment so there we go. Too busy to even get on the queue!!

What kind of spots? If she's just been grizzly my mind would go straight to post viral rash.

Just don’t go, I usually tell parents if your child has a cold but is well in themselves we can proceed as along as no fever in 48 hours prior to vaccination. But if she’s been unwell, miserable and has had a fever nope I’d not want to give 4 vaccines that are likely to make her feel worse. We are a vaccination team though so the central appointments team would rearrange for you, even though we work in health centres. They don’t have anything to do with our appointments. Just phone later to explain why you didn’t go. It’s not a problem, you’d not be coming anyway so it’s a gap (I usually catch up on admin)

hope your little ones are feeling better soon

My daughter had the MMR and chicken pox at the same time. She had 2 spots the day before the mmr but she's a rashy baby and didn't think much of it. She had the MMR in the morning and by evening it was very clear she had chicken pox. She cope ok considering she was ill and had had a vaccine. She was only having one vaccine at a time due to a reaction to the 4 month jabs
