Child poorly for a month

Please help ☹️

For A month my DD8 has been poorly. Quick timeline:
Strep A / Scarlet Fever confirmed 1st April and antibiotics for 10 days.

3 days after finishing the course, on 14th april, she started getting headaches and complaining of nausea. Low grade fever intermittently (37.8/37.9). Headaches and fever relieved by calpol.

She’s since been very tired, and very clingy.

17th April came home from school today with a high temp of 39.9 and feeling very tired and shivery. Sore throat. Felt better after 5 days, seen by GP.

27th April (5 days after last symptoms stoped) she complained of a sore throat and high temp of 39.3. Complained of double vision while reading.

She seems to go 3-5 days feeling well before getting new high temp / sore throat symptoms which seems odd given it’s been going on almost continually for a month since strep symptoms began at end of March with some well days in between high temps and her lying in bed all day. It’s tiring for her as she goes off her food with a fever, and feels like rotten and misses lots of school, and it’s very hard going having to take so much time off work to look after her.

GP (different each time) say as she’s well in between they are separate viruses. But no one else at home or her friends at school do and she’s basically been ill for a month ☹️what can / should I do next?

Hi OP, your poor DD! I would take her back to a GP and ask for blood work and a possible referral to paediatrics, just for your own peace of mind. I hope she feels better soon

My daughter went through the same, she had to have another course of the antibiotics for strep.

She then ended up with tonsillitis every 2-3weeks for around 18months. Which she then didn't get as often after. It was all so strange, I still think she needed stronger antibiotics.

I hope your little one is on the mend soon.

Ask for a blood test. It could be still residual effects from scarlet fever but worth checking there's nothing more going on. Hope she's better soon

We've had the same this winter with ds5. He had tonsillitis constantly, never fully clearing up, for 5 months. He was already a skinny child. We had blood tests, so many antibiotics, and his attendance was 60% - I was sending him in in the days when he only had a low grade temperature and coud eat and drink.

Nothing worked. He's been referred for tonsillectomy after 10+ bouts a year since the Scarlet Fever outbreak 2/3 years ago, which started it all off. I've started him on sambucol now, probably coincidence and it's actually time of year related, but his tonsils are finally small and without white patches. We also sterilise his toothbrush daily, have for months and we've had less strep this year (usually 3 bouts each winter...).

It's so hard, we'd have lost jobs if we weren't both wfh and fully flexible. It's been a struggle though. Definitely go back to gp for blood tests.

Thank you all for taking the time to respond. I think I’ll try and go back this week and ask for a referral for peace
of mind.
she actually had her tonsils out last year and has been great for months after non stop tonsillitis so the strep/ scarlet fever at the start of April was a horrid surprise ☹️and just feels like it’s grumbled on she just wants to lie in bed ☹️my work is getting really stressful as I’ve missed so much (single mum so only me when they’re off sick) and I’m pulling my hair out between worry there’s something else going on and worrying about work. ☹️
