I posted elsewhere but hoping to get more traffic here…

Dd 9 started with a rash on the 2nd April. Lacy/mottled looking. Few days later her cheeks were glowing. We presumed slapped cheek as it’s going around her school. However 3 & half weeks later the cheeks have disappeared but the rash is still there! It changed appearance thought out the day sometimes looks faint lacy/mottled other times it’s really red & blotchy & hot to touch. No other symptoms. No recent illness. No high temp etc. The rash is smooth to touch not raised, looks under the skin if that makes sense & it doesn’t itch. We’ve give piriton didn’t make a difference. We’ve seen the GP who also didn’t know what it was but said Likely viral. I wasn’t aware viral rashes could last this long? It’s not bothering her in the slightest but starting to worry Me. It’s worse when she’s hot & worse in the shower. We’re due to go on holiday soon to a hot country & im worrying what effect that will have on the rash. So anyone recognise this rash…..

It's really difficult to see from the picture, but if the gp thinks viral, it probably is. I'm not minimising here. I think there's a misconception that viruses are short-lived. They're often not. If history of autoimmune or diet has changed, you could speak to pharmacist and try Piriton if they think its appropriate.

Give her piriton and use an emollient in the shower.

My kids and I have had slapped cheek recently and our rashes on arms/legs/torso persisted for a couple of weeks and were worse after heat/exercise/showers. That looks just like our rashes although we stayed itchy for at least a week on and off. I would be quite sure it’s from the slapped cheek. Piriton was really helpful when it got itchy and a simple moisturiser might help if it’s dry or bothersome.

Thanks all so far. Yes I was certain in was slapped cheek matched all the symptoms I’ve read online about it, only the GP said it would have cleared within 2 weeks so didn’t seem to think it was that. How long did your rashes last if you don’t mind me asking?

I would say we had rashes for about 2 weeks. I’m sure it wouldn’t be unusual for it to last longer though.
