Weird temperature help 🤒

Hey all!

I’m looking for some advice as I wait for my DS Doctors appointment. He’s just turned 3 a week ago.

In March, he stayed overnight in hospital with apparently a common cold virus but he was quite poorly- discharge next day.

Two weeks later, he was in hospital with apparently erythema multiforme which they said was probably due to the previous virus.

He stayed for in for 5 days on antibiotics & we went sent home to finish the course.

Anyway, he has had a strange pinkish/red ish mark on the back of his knee (this whole knee swelled up before the EM rash) that has been diagnosed as eczema (not dry at all) and now a birth mark - that happened to only arrive in mid March 🤔

I’ve added a pic of it for reference.

In addition he keeps getting a weird elevated temperature every few days 37.8° sometimes 37.9° which lasts a few days then goes away.

This elevated temperature is ONLY in the daytime. I check it overnight and he’s normal around 36.4-36.6° 😐

I think he has a cold or something coming but nothing comes.

I’m getting frustrated with being what I feel is fobbed off when I cannot help but feel this isn’t normal for a 3 year old. I’m a mum of 4 so kinda have an alright idea of the typical toddler germs & how it goes.

Does anyone have any ideas or experiences similar?! We have a doctors appointment…. Again next Thursday but I’m driving myself insane on Google!

It does look dry on the picture.

It’s definitely not dry. We seen a paramedic at the surgery today & she’s unsure too. She said definitely not eczema or birth mark though 🤦🏼‍♀️

Allergy related?

But under 38 isn't that high, mine did that often at that age when he was tired.

My dd had erythema multiforme and it was troublesome for months. She had an extreme case and it was everywhere and was also hospitalised. She had random temps and random reoccurrences of the rash for for months after. The rash would pop up in one place such as her thigh - stay for the night and settle in the morning. It was very odd and the drs were unsure as to why it happened. She also had random patches including a one off impetigo patch on her face that didn't initially present as it usually would. Can you see a dermatologist privately? EM is quite rare and can be nasty.. it certainly took dd a very long time to get back to normal skin and temp wise.

@itendswithus I’m so sorry to hear your little one had EM too - it is awful isn’t it?!

I also cannot thank you enough for commenting & sharing your experience as this has brought some comfort in that perhaps it is all related & not anything underlying/sinister.

I hadn’t even considered a private dermatologist just a GP but it is absolutely possible so I’ll definitely search for one near me & get him seen.

Do you mind if I ask roughly how long these issues lasted for your daughter & if you found anything helpful?

We’re back to see the GP on Thursday but I don’t think they have considered it being a side effect from EM so will definitely ask this too.

Thank you so much again from a mum going out of her mind! Appreciate you.

Ah I'm so happy that I could help a little bit. My DD had just turned 3 when she had it, she is now 7 and has had no long term effects from it. The random rashes lasted about 6 months - I think it was lurking in her system and came out when she was run down etc. You mentioned swelling - dd got a hard swelling on her foot that they said was viral when this happened. Also her legs swelled up. I've attached a pic for you. The only other suggestion I could make if you are very worried is also seeing a paediatric rheumatologist - they are as rare as hens teeth however if you are in NW I can recommend someone. My eldest DD had very concerning symptoms last summer and this rheumatologist looked at everything head to toe and we got a swift diagnosis. Just a thought.

If it's just the one patch I would try not to over think - I know it's virtually impossible z

This was towards the end of it when everything started calming down rash wise. It's a nasty bugger of a rash and it was very angry with itself.

@itendswithus thank you so much. Im so glad your daughter hasn’t had any long term side effects. It’s absolutely horrible.

My son turned 3 two weeks ago so was 2 when he got it but very nearly 3 when he had it. I’ve found a private paediatric consultant & dermatologist so I’ve emailed them after your suggestion. Hopefully, she’ll be able to check him over & shed some light.

I am SW 😔 couldn’t be any further apart really. I may look for a rheumatologist also just in case this consultant doesn’t have any answers.

NM have removed the picture but his knee with this random patch swelled first then the other knee. The next day the top of his foot too. Then The next day his hands. Then his face. It all lasted 48 hours maximum & moved around. It was awful for him.

EM is awful - I have 4 & hadn’t come across anything like it until this.

Thank you so much again you’ve really helped x
