Just looking to see if anyone has had the same and the outcome. We have had ongoing health issues with my daughter since she was 1 year old. Due to vomiting, headaches, loose stool and generally feeling unwell in herself. After much pushing we where referred to King's gastro who called today to say her calprotectin is raised (292). Is there anything else that it could be other than ibd? They said they will want to do colonoscopy but consultant will call me today to discuss.

Sorry to hear this. My dd 10 was diagnosed with IBD less than 2 years ago. Her calprotectin was 1870. You'll know when the scopes are done. Good luck. FWIW, dd is fairly well managed with meds bit it is a shocking diagnosis, even if you are expecting it. It's an inflammation marker so could possibly be several things good luck 💐

@buckeejit thank you for your reply it's such a worry isn't it, sorry to hear about your dd diagnosis ❤️. What were her symptoms if you don't mind me asking?

Sorry to hear about your DD. I had elevated calprotectin, over 600 if I remember correctly (though this can be in the thousands) and I was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis after a colonoscopy.

It’s a shock but as PP said, it can be managed well with medication. A bit of trial and error involved but you’ll figure out what works for her eventually.

If you’re worried about her getting a stoma bag, I’ve connected with lots of people with stoma bags since my IBD diagnosis and none have spoken of it negatively. It’s daunting of course but I think most are just happy to get their life back and feel well again!

Good luck with your DD 🤗

You can have raised levels with allergies. The symptoms fit if it's not something you have considered

Has she been tested for Coeliacs disease?

Hi
can I please ask what was the outcome of your situation.
My 4.5 year old has had a fecal calprotectin of 244 just now and one month before it was 249.
When it was 249, he was going through a lot of infections that he seemed to catch from nursery. The reason it was done was because he had an episode of blood for 5 days in the stool.
once everything cleared the gp repeated the fecal calprotectin and it has come back now with 244 which ain’t much lower so I am very worried as I have strong family history of IBD.

We had a similar calprotectin level in my son and the GP was very concerned and basically told me he had to have crohns because of it. The paediatrician said that children often have a high level - usually after an infection - and that it didn't really register with them as it wasn't a concerning level.

Thank you for your reply.
somewhere you discharged or asked to repeat it again?
