How to get a Dr's appointment

DGS (11 months) has had a few viruses since Xmas and the last (quite severe one) has left a cough that won't clear up. DD has tried for the last week to get him an appointment at the Dr. Usual drill, on hold for 50 mins first thing to be told there's no appointments when she gets through and that she'll need to call 111 or go to urgent care. She's spoken to the health visitor hub who have told her the same. Is going to urgent care really the only option for what should be a routine GP appointment for a baby? Anyone any ideas who she needs to complain to?

I have discovered that e-consult is the best way to go. You can access through the NHS app or through your GP surgery website.
Alternatively, 111 can get you an appointment through their systems much faster than holding on the phone to the surgery.

I'd call 111 or go to a walk in centre.

Hmmm, what's "a cough that just won't clear up"?. If it's just a cough and it's been a month or less I'd leave it.

If there's a temperature/other symptoms I'd explain to the receptionist and go to urgent care if no change in their position.

@User0ne he's had a cough of varying severity since December/January but now his chest crackles when he's breathing too. No temperature since the last virus a couple of weeks ago.
