Hey!
Im a mum to 4 boys and not normally a worrier. BUT. Something just isn’t sitting right with me and looking for other mums opinions.

My ds3 who is 4 has has on and off belly ache since Tuesday last week (he had a tummy bug 3 weeks ago). He hasn’t passed a stool since Monday last week. He has mucus passing when he is trying to go. I’ve taken him to the drs and they gave him lactluse which he’s been having. He’s eating and drinking fine. He’s a little more tired than normal so just wants to chill doesn’t want to run around with his 3 brothers but he’s not poorly. He normal goes twice a day morning and straight after school like clockwork.

A week with no stool… should I be so worried? Would the lactluse have worked by now? Been on it since Friday.

Anything that you could recommend that may help him?

thank you

How old is he?

PoopingAllTheWay · 23/04/2024 00:33

Olive oil – consuming a teaspoon of olive oil in the morning on an empty stomach

Weetabix with Brown Sugar

Up his fluids and try get him to walk around, as movement helps

Lactulose can take a few days to work, possibly longer if it needs to work through a lot.
Physical activity would help but I know you say he's not really up for that.
Might be worth speaking to the gp again if there's no movement after a week of lactulose.

I would take him back to the GP

When did he start lactluce. I'd give it at least 3/4 days then ring the doctor. Lots of fluids.

He started it on Friday, he does have moments where he will happily play but he’s having a lot more downtime than usual.

I think when a young child's behaviour changes and they stop wanting to join in nice things I'd always lean towards seeing the GP.
