Throwing up 2 days after fairground ride

Hi

DS12 was on a fairground ride Friday afternoon, one of those centrifugal force ones.

He vomited after it and is still getting sick.

Over night Friday, once yesterday daytime and twice last night.

Do I need to do anything? Or will it pass on its own?

Bit worried about concussion but not sure if it's the same thing or not. No bang to the head but obviously his brain was thrown all over the place.

It could be nothing. But I wouldn’t want to take the risk. Call 111.

ineedtostopbeingdramaticfirst · 21/04/2024 09:36

I'd assume concussion definitely needs checking out good luck

Nesbi · 21/04/2024 09:44

Another possibility is an inner ear problem - essentially his body still telling his brain he is in motion which can make you feel unwell/sick. I’ve experienced it in similar circumstances and it gradually wore off (but took 2-3 weeks).

Axx · 21/04/2024 10:04

Being sick is horrible. I hope he's better soon.

MassiveOvaryaction · 21/04/2024 11:08

I'd assume more vertigo type thing than concussion but still needs checking out. I'd call 111 then if he needs seen by a doctor they can book you an appointment at urgent care/ooh.

Upinthenightagain · 21/04/2024 11:13

I would get him checked out. It may just be coincidental. There’s a lot of bugs around

RacingLine · 21/04/2024 11:20

Hope he's ok. I had this when I was the same age as your son and I had some damage to my inner ear. Unfortunately it was permanent and I now get terrible travel sickness! It is definitely worth getting checked out. Years later I was told that it might have been sorted out had my parents taken me to a doctor (which they didn't!).

He may well have had a slightly sore ear or something beforehand. Or he may have a bug. Either way it is definitely worth getting him checked over.

Fingers crossed it is nothing serious.

Bearpawk · 21/04/2024 11:21

My first thought was inner ear disruption of some sort .... Hope he's ok

marmiteoneverything · 21/04/2024 11:26

It could well be just a coincidence and he has a bug, but definitely right to get it checked out.

Hope you don’t have too long to wait!

ageratum1 · 21/04/2024 11:28

I had that when I wasa kid.I was sick for days especially the walzers!

WonderingWanda · 21/04/2024 11:29

I expect the force of the ride moved some crystals in his ear and now he has vertigo. Definitely get medical help, there's a manoeuvre they can do to get them back in the right place.

ageratum1 · 21/04/2024 11:30

I would call 111 if you are worried rather than traipse to a&e.I think there are crystals on your inner ear which get dislodged and make you sick for a bit.

Similar happened to me on a ride on one of Blackpools piers that my daughter wanted to go on . Up until then I could go on anything with no problem but halfway through the ride I felt like I was going to die and had to lay down when I got off . Vomited all night and haven’t been able to go on anything that goes fast backwards or sideways since which is about 15 yrs now . I cannot even face the wrong way , sit sideways on a tube train as I literally instantly feel nauseous . I hope your son feels better soon .

raspberryberet7 · 21/04/2024 12:43

Any update op?

Citrusandginger · 21/04/2024 13:01

Hopefully you are in A&E having medical assessment and getting sorted.

For symptom relief which may help him in future, I have learned that closing one eye and using the vision in the other can really help to restore my balance. I hope you don't mind me mentioning this, but it might just help. I hope he is feeling better.

78Summer · 21/04/2024 14:04

Great you are taking him. I used to work in a vertigo clinic - sounds like it could be his ear crystals. Hope he feels better soon.

TheYearOfSmallThings · 21/04/2024 14:11

Did he eat anything at the fair? Hot dog? Ice cream?

Hm2023 · 21/04/2024 14:22

Good luck op that’s scary isn’t it ?

Toddlerteaplease · 21/04/2024 14:31

More likely to be his ears. Try some travel sickness tablets.
