Could dentist have missed this cavity?

My children go to the dentist every 3 months and both have separate issues. My 11 year old needs a brace, and as a result of overcrowding has difficulty in removing the plaque from the front bottom teeth so it needs removing for him. My 8 year old seems to have terrible trouble in getting his baby teeth to come out and needs 2 teeth removing as the adult teeth have grown behind with no sign of them coming out any time soon. Not even a wobble to them.

My 8 year old came to me last night to say his tooth hurt. Upon looking it appears to me that there is a decent sized cavity there. However, we were only at the dentist 17 days ago... how could this be missed?

If I'm honest I'm not happy anyway with the dental care for myself and for my children but given getting an NHS dentist is incredibly difficult, I've sucked it up and put up with it. But this has annoyed me as now my child is in pain, having to wait over a weekend when he could of had a filling 2 weeks ago. I'm gutted for him also as he is good at doing his teeth and doesn't drink anything but water unless at a party. Sweet treat is once a day after dinner unless special occasion. My older one is exactly the same, but never had a cavity. Makes no sense to me!

Would you complain to the practice that this was missed?

Update: been to dentist - he said the tooth was chipped and filled it. Not convinced... but 🤷‍♀️.
Will be making DS do his teeth in my presence again! Just in case...
