I haven’t toilet trained him yet but he usually poos squatting in his nappy but this month he is pooing standing up. I was about to potty train but he refusing to even squat to poo let alone using a potty. Is it normal for a toddler this young to all sudden poo standing up. I haven’t introduced the potty yet so I know the behaviour is not caused from potty training fear ?

You mean he is standing still when pooing? My DD poos like that. Or she leans on a chair or table standing still while pooing. She's done that for ages now.

I’m wondering if it’s a sign of readiness to potty train - maybe toddler doesn’t like the feel of it in their nappy, and sounds like good awareness of the feeling before they need to go so know to stand up! It’s on the early end of the spectrum to try but the ‘Oh crap’ method says 20-30 months is a good time to start! I think the sitting on the potty part comes a few accidents in to the training so I wouldn’t let that hold you back from starting or worry about it!

Oh so it’s normal to poo standing up. He literally full standing up and holding the wall. And poo in his nappy. I never seen this before, I see all toddler squats to poo in their nappies. Got me so worried 🤪

My toddler (23m) poops on the toilet now but will only do so literally standing on the seat. He begins in a crouch position but to actually poo he always stands up (holding an adults hands). It's not ideal from an independence perspective as he can't run along to the toilet by himself (refuses potty), but it is just how he does it.
