For those whose children have had pneumonia...

I have a few questions, please:
How long did it take for your child to get better after coming out of hospital/finishing antibiotics?
Did your child relapse?
Is it normal to be anxious about a relapse?
Has your child had pneumonia more than once?
Do you now feel on high-alert every time they get ill?
Have you been given any reason for the pneumonia or is it just one of those things?

For context, my DS12 has just spent 4 days on IV antibiotics. He's otherwise fit and healthy apart from a bunch of allergies.

Sorry can't awnser all of these questions as I was the one that had it when I was 5, i was in hospital Christmas Eve onwards for about a week. I have not had pneumonia since and I am now 19 and as far as I'm aware there was no reason as to why I ended up with it, Hope your son is doing well!

Good to know you haven't had it since!

My son spent a similar time on IV antibiotics at a similar age.
He came home from hospital very weak and tired. We were told to keep him upright and moving, at first he could barely stagger from one lamp-post to the next in our street.
He was given the anti-pneumonia vaccination, the one they give to the over-60s, that winter [and maybe the flu one?] but we have always enthusiastically accepted every vaccination going, so that was not an issue.
He recovered fully quite quickly, has not had pneumonia since, is a healthy strapping young man, but we are always careful to watch any potential infections and remind him to be aware.
I wish your son a speedy recovery, please try not to worry about him [I was terrified when my lad was ill, so sympathy to you]

That's good to know. Thanks for your well wishes.
