On Wednesday morning my daughter woke with a very slight rash on her torso and back. She didn’t seem unwell, she had a slightly temperature and was perhaps a bit more tired than usual but otherwise carried on as usual. The rash has gradually got worse and this afternoon has got really bad on her face. I initially thought it could be an allergic reaction but she hasn’t been near anything I know she is allergic to and it’s not sore or itchy. Don’t want to waste nhs time if it’s nothing but equally I would like to know what’s wrong with her!

Nursery nurse here - looks very like Slapped Cheek from what i can see. We're seeing a lot of cases here.

How is she feeling? When DS had scarlet fever it started as a rash on his torso and back then spread to bright red cheeks. He did have a very high temp as well though and wasnt himself.

I did wonder about that but everything suggests the rash appears after the red cheeks so she had it the opposite way round.

My dd has this identical rash right now and I know of 2 other people who have children with this same rash. All children are well in themselves and none have been in contact with one another.

The GP said it's viral in response to an ear infection she has but I don't buy it due to the aforementioned other children. Pharmacist said today to try piriton for a few days.

My dd has slapped cheek 3 weeks ago so it's not that.

Does she have a temperature? When my LO had scarlet fever they had the rash first, then red cheek which wasn't all that bad. The rash had a rough/sandpaper type feeing to it - is your LO's similar?

Sickoffamilydrama · 13/04/2024 22:22

DS and all his friends have had it this week it must be doing the rounds!

A temperature is literally the only symptom she has other than the rash. It is smooth. She had a similar thing last year and I did take her to the gp who said it was likely a virus but couldn’t tell me what it actually was. It is much worse this time.

I would phone 111 for advice TBH. They will advise , a rash coupled with a temperature should have medical help .

I’ve waiting on a callback but they are very busy. I do feel bad contacting them for something that probably isn’t serious but it has got worse.
